Oracle cancels approximately $7 billion AI chip leasing agreement with Tencent

2026-11-04 15:45:46

According to a report by Reuters on November 4, citing the Financial Times, Oracle has canceled a multi-billion dollar chip leasing contract with Tencent. The report stated that U.S. officials had expressed concerns to Oracle about the deal, and Oracle abandoned the agreement under pressure from the Trump administration.

It was reported that Tencent also hosted high-level officials from Guangdong Province, who requested the company to support domestic chips. Reuters stated that it was unable to immediately verify the above report, and Oracle, Tencent, and the White House did not respond to Reuters' request for comment.

The Financial Times reported last month that Tencent signed its largest overseas leasing agreement with Oracle, valued at approximately $7 billion. The five-year agreement covered multiple data centers of Oracle in Southeast Asia and was originally expected to allow Tencent to obtain about 100,000 advanced AI chips that could not be acquired in China due to related restrictions between Washington and Beijing.
