Former Coinbase product head Linda Xie: Reviewing nearly 10 years of angel investing, 6 returns exceeding the principal all came from crypto, with the highest paper return coming from an AI company
Linda Xie, co-founder of Scalar Capital and former product lead at Coinbase, published a review of her personal angel investment situation over the past 10 years, stating that she has invested in a total of 50 companies, with 60% in the cryptocurrency sector, 10% in the AI sector, and the remainder distributed across other industries.
Currently, there have been 6 investments that have returned more than the initial investment, all from the cryptocurrency sector, with 5 coming from token warrants and 1 from equity, but none of these covered the entire investment portfolio individually. The highest paper return on investment, which far exceeds other projects, comes from an AI company; if it can be monetized, its return could theoretically cover the entire portfolio's investment.
Additionally, 12 companies have officially shut down or exited through talent acquisition, with 7 investments returning zero, 4 returning 80% to 90% of the initial investment, and 1 result pending. The above statistics only cover her personal equity investments and do not include the funds under her management or directly held cryptocurrency assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.
