Will Kuroro help TreasureDAO move closer to the dream of "Web3 Nintendo"?

Written by: Cookie, Rhythm BlockBeats

After the "Dungeon" The Beacon caught fire, TreasureDAO quickly took advantage of the momentum and listed its Token MAGIC on Coinbase and Binance, becoming one of the most dazzling stars in the market. Standing in the spotlight, TreasureDAO did not stop to enjoy the long-awaited heat; they are working hard to bring a game ecosystem called "Kuroro" into the world of TreasureDAO.

TreasureDAO's BD head @Jpegape1 revealed that they have already had conversations with Kuroro's CEO and other team members.

Subsequently, TreasureDAO's Co-Founder and COO @0xkarel reached out again to Kuroro's CEO, saying Treasure welcomes you and hopes to impress you with MAGIC.

From the tweets above, it can be seen that "Pokémon" is a major tag for Kuroro. What magic does this "Web3 Pokémon" have that attracts TreasureDAO?

Project Overview

Kuroro started operations at the end of November last year, raising over $3 million through the sale of "Golden Ferry Ticket" and "Silver Ferry Ticket" NFTs.

According to data from Kuroro's official website, the team currently has 27 members. The team has not yet revealed their real names, and there is little information available. The two Co-Founders are @kurorosage and @ProfOtium. According to the team's description, both have held technical director-level positions in Silicon Valley companies. CEO @kurorosage previously worked at Synthesis, a company that raised $17 million in funding to provide online reinforcement education for children aged 8-14. Its Co-Founder Josh Dahn co-founded SpaceX's Ad Astra school with Elon Musk. There is almost no information available about CTO @ProfOtium.

Game Introduction

Currently, there are two games under continuous development in its game ecosystem: "Beast Brawl" and "Kuroro Wilds: Call of the Islands."

Beast Brawl

A strategy turn-based battle game similar to "Pokémon." In Beast Brawl, players collect various "beasts" and design their battle lineup to compete against other players, improving rankings, unlocking seasonal battle pass rewards, and obtaining tradable special items through battles.

Kuroro officially states that three Pokémon VGC professional players (including one world champion) participated in the design of the game mechanics to make Beast Brawl a game "more suitable for esports." Some design improvements focus on the feelings of competitors and the viewing experience, such as "reducing random events" and "flexible turn durations." Others may affect the fun of the game, such as "eliminating a lot of repetitive actions before obtaining a complete gaming experience." Their choice to develop Kuroro Wilds: Call of the Islands may be a remedy for this. Even NFTs are part of the idea of being "more suitable for esports"—no longer needing to buy a Nintendo Switch and a Pokémon game cartridge to join the competition.

Since April, the two core features of Beast Brawl, "Lineup Designer" and "Ranked Matchmaking," have been undergoing internal testing, primarily targeting community members. At the end of November, Beast Brawl entered a testing phase called "Pre-Alpha," where the game was significantly optimized and became more complete.

Kuroro Wilds: Call of the Islands

An MMORPG game that provides a narrative experience for the "beasts" in "Beast Brawl" through higher freedom exploration. Pre-registration for the "Open Alpha" test will begin in the first quarter of 2023.

Introduction to Each NFT Series

"Golden Ferry Ticket"

The "Golden Ferry Ticket" was released in January this year, with a total of 740 tickets (30 reserved for the team, half allocated to team members, and the other half for collaborative giveaways), priced at 0.15 ETH. The sale of the Golden Ferry Ticket was very successful, selling out in seconds, and it performed well in the market for over three months, maintaining a floor price around 1 ETH. However, the Golden Ferry Ticket could not withstand the onslaught of the bear market, and since mid-May, both the floor price and transaction volume have continued to decline. Currently, the floor price on OpenSea is about 0.19 ETH.

Golden Ferry Tickets can be redeemed on the official website. Upon redemption, players receive 1 "Starter Beast," 1 "Origin Beast," and 1 "Golden Trainer Badge." Additionally, the "Origin Beast" obtained through redeeming the Golden Ferry Ticket has a 10% chance of having the "Lucky" attribute (similar to having the "Shiny" attribute in Pokémon). Each Golden Ferry Ticket is destroyed upon redemption, and currently, there are 175 Golden Ferry Tickets in circulation.

"Silver Ferry Ticket"

The "Silver Ferry Ticket" was released in early May this year, with a total of 5860 tickets (60 reserved for the team). Of these, 3400 tickets were sold through a fair Dutch auction, starting at 0.45 ETH, and ultimately sold out at around 0.3 ETH. In contrast, the 2400 tickets reserved for the whitelist, priced at 0.15 ETH, surprisingly did not sell out, and the team ultimately chose to keep the remaining 988 tickets for future development. Regardless, this sales performance was quite ideal given the market environment at the time.

The Silver Ferry Ticket was unfortunately released at an inopportune time, resulting in a much poorer market performance, essentially in a continuous downward trend. Currently, the floor price on OpenSea is about 0.04 ETH.

The Silver Ferry Ticket can also be redeemed on the official website, but the benefits are not as abundant as those of the Golden Ferry Ticket. Upon redemption, players can only guarantee receiving 1 "Origin Beast," with only a 10% chance of receiving either 1 "Starter Beast" or 1 "Golden Trainer Badge." Additionally, the "Origin Beast" obtained through redeeming the Silver Ferry Ticket has only a 1% chance of having the "Lucky" attribute. Each Silver Ferry Ticket is destroyed upon redemption, and currently, there are 1200 Silver Ferry Tickets in circulation.

"Origin Beast"

A total of 6600 "Origin Beasts" will be generated, all through the redemption of "Golden Ferry Ticket" and "Silver Ferry Ticket." Currently, 4315 "Origin Beasts" have been generated, with a floor price of 0.018 ETH on OpenSea.

The "Origin Beasts" have 12 different "elements," and more may be added in the future. Different "elements" will have a restraining relationship with each other. Additionally, the skills of "beasts" also have "elements." A "water beast" can learn "fire skills," but it is not conducive to achieving "superior effects"—not only must the "element" of the "beast" restrain the target of the attack, but the "element" of the skill used must also do so.

12 elements: "Water," "Soul," "Wind," "Poison," "Wood," "Light," "Electric," "Metal," "Fire," "Dark," "Earth," "Fighting"

Restraining relationship table between different "elements"

Moreover, different "elements" of "beasts" will also have some unique "resistances." For example, "electric beasts" cannot be "paralyzed," and "wood beasts" cannot be "put to sleep."

"Origin Beasts" have 6 "base attributes": "Health," "Attack," "Defense," "Magic Attack," "Magic Defense," and "Speed." The "base attributes" are also known as "Genetic Values (GV)," as they are randomly assigned values between 1 and 10 when the NFT is minted (except for "Speed." Since "Speed" determines the turn order in battles, the "beast" with the highest "Speed" on the field can attack first. To ensure game balance, all "beasts" have an initial "Speed" value of 5), which not only determines the innate conditions of the "beast" but also affects its "breeding."

Leveling up a "beast" grants "Skill Points (SP)" to enhance its "base attributes." Each "beast" can obtain a maximum of 100 "Skill Points (SP)," with a maximum of 50 "SP" for a single attribute. Additionally, "beasts" have 3 "evolution" stages (there may be a "4th evolution divine beast" in the future), and each evolution can break through the total value limit of "base attributes."

"Base," "Rare," and "Epic" are the three rarity levels of "Origin Beasts." The higher the rarity level, the harder it is to draw, but it does not affect battle capability.

Finally, only "Origin Beasts" can "breed."

"Starter Beast"

Currently, there are only 929 "Starter Beasts." Compared to "Origin Beasts," "Starter Beasts" cannot "breed," but they are rarer and have some uniqueness. Currently, the floor price of "Starter Beasts" on OpenSea is 0.03 ETH.

"Starter Beasts" have significant commemorative value, developed from three popular images in the community since early testing: dogs, monkeys, and toads, resulting in the three "Starter Beasts": Argos, Koji, and Torudo. Each "Starter Beast" is a "Light Element Blank," which can choose any of "Fire," "Water," "Grass," or "Electric" as a second "element" after "evolution." This "evolution" will take place in Kuroro Wilds: Call of the Islands.

"Golden Trainer Badge"

The "Golden Trainer Badge" currently has only 972 pieces, with a floor price of 0.025 ETH on OpenSea. Although the total quantity is small, it does not have much utility. The known greatest utility so far is that it will grant $KURO airdrops.

$KURO

Kuroro has not yet released detailed tokenomics. What is known is that Kuroro will have a dual token system. $KURO will play a major role in the entire Kuroro ecosystem, while $DIV will serve as the in-game token. However, the development list for Kuroro already includes two games, and there may be in-game tokens beyond $DIV.

It is known that holders of "Origin Beasts," "Starter Beasts," and "Golden Trainer Badges" will receive $KURO airdrops, with more holdings resulting in more airdrops. Additionally, staking "Origin Beasts" and "Starter Beasts" will also yield more airdrops.

How to Participate in the Pre-Alpha Test of Beast Brawl?

Pay-to-participate: Purchase 1 "Origin Beast," "Starter Beast," or "Golden Trainer Badge," with the cheapest being the "Origin Beast."

Grind on Discord: Participate in various activities in the Kuroro Discord (such as tweet retweets/art creations, etc.), and after accumulating 50 "Shells" (Kuroro Discord points), you can exchange for a testing qualification.

As long as you can obtain a testing qualification, you do not need to purchase any additional NFTs to play the game. Each week, the "beasts" available for all testing players will be updated for free. Pay-to-play players thus have a certain advantage, as they can bring their owned "beasts" into the game. In the future, Beast Brawl is expected to continue this Free To Play approach, where pay-to-play players will have stronger "beasts" and can build lineups more flexibly beyond the "weekly free beast pool."

Conclusion

Finally, let's talk about the potential collaboration between Kuroro and TreasureDAO. I believe that Kuroro is unlikely to completely become a project within the TreasureDAO ecosystem like The Beacon; there will not be much progress in the short term, but small-scale interactions (such as co-hosting competitions/giveaways for TreasureDAO's Smol Brains holders, etc.) should occur.

Firstly, Kuroro has already successfully raised sufficient funds and has planned its dual token model. From both the funds it possesses and the vision it has proposed, Kuroro does not need support from TreasureDAO and is likely to prefer maintaining its independence.

Secondly, Kuroro has been building its game (Beast Brawl is currently running on Polygon) on Polygon. Even if it were to migrate to Arbitrum, the speed would not be fast. After all, they have not yet completed the work of migrating "Origin Beasts" and "Starter Beasts" from Polygon back to the ETH mainnet, and Beast Brawl still requires continuous optimization, plus the first demo of Kuroro Wilds: Call of the Islands is about to be released. Kuroro indeed has a lot on its plate.

During the long development cycle after a successful launch, maintaining the project's value or attention is a challenging task. The interaction between Kuroro and TreasureDAO is a good thing for both parties—Kuroro enhances its visibility, and TreasureDAO lays a brilliant foreshadowing for its narrative. Will Kuroro help TreasureDAO move closer to its dream of becoming the "Web3 Nintendo"? We shall see.
