ChainCatcher news, the new candidate for Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Republican Congressman Kevin McCarthy, has stated that if the Republicans take control of the House, he will consider a complete ban on lawmakers holding and trading stocks, and this measure may extend to cryptocurrencies.

Previously, House Administration Committee Chair Zoe Lofgren proposed a framework in September 2022 aimed at amending the Stock Act to prohibit members of Congress and Supreme Court justices, as well as their spouses and dependent children, from "trading stocks or holding securities, commodities, futures, cryptocurrencies, and other similar investment vehicles." The Federal Open Market Committee approved similar rules prohibiting senior Federal Reserve officials from buying and holding cryptocurrencies. (Cointelegraph)
