U.S. Treasury: The Tornado Cash case is still under review, and further comments are not appropriate
ChainCatcher news, according to Decrypt, regarding the OFAC sanctions on the Tornado Cash smart contract, the U.S. Treasury Department responded to Congressman Tom Emmer's inquiry by stating, "These cases are still being heard in the Northern District of Florida and the Western District of Texas. Since Tornado Cash remains a party to the litigation, it is not appropriate for the Treasury to comment further on this matter at this time."
Tom Emmer tweeted in response: "Technologies like Tornado Cash are essential for ensuring individuals can conduct peer-to-peer transactions privately, just as we do with cash today; privacy is normal. Therefore, while the Treasury insists it cannot respond to Congress's inquiry because its destructive policy decisions are in litigation, I look forward to discussing this matter publicly with Secretary Yellen at a future hearing of the House Financial Services Committee."
