France releases a metaverse consultation report, seeking to break the monopoly of internet giants
ChainCatcher news, the French Ministry of Economy released a consultation report on Tuesday, seeking opinions on policy issues related to privacy, health, and environmental risks in the virtual world. The aim is to prevent international internet giants from monopolizing the metaverse and to create "digital sovereignty" in Europe, replacing American companies like Meta with local firms.
The consultation will last until May 2 and includes virtual reality and augmented reality, game engines, and blockchain technology that supports cryptocurrencies. Its goal is to propose an alternative to the virtual network world currently established by international internet giants.
During the 2022 election campaign, Macron discussed the necessity of establishing a European metaverse, and EU officials will formulate the EU virtual world strategy in May. (CoinDesk)
