Data: In Q1 2023, funds stolen from crypto attacks amounted to approximately $400 million, a year-on-year decrease of 70%
ChainCatcher news, according to the latest report from TRM Labs, in the first quarter of 2023, there were a total of 40 hacking incidents in the crypto market, involving thefts amounting to approximately $400 million. The scale of thefts decreased by 70% compared to the first quarter of 2022. The average size of each hacking incident also shrank, from $30 million in 2022 to $10.5 million in the same period of 2023.
Additionally, TRM Labs indicated that possibly due to increased regulatory attention on crypto attacks, hackers are gradually preferring to return stolen funds in exchange for "white hat" rewards. TRM Labs estimates that hacking victims recovered nearly half of the stolen funds in 2023. (source link)
