Zhao Changpeng: Binance Wallet and Trust Wallet are not affected by vulnerabilities related to Libbitcoin Explorer 3.x
ChainCatcher news, Binance founder Zhao Changpeng stated on social media that self-custody wallets are not risky, provided that one understands how to operate them. The vulnerabilities in the Libbitcoin Explorer 3.x version of cryptocurrency wallets stem from the random number generator of 32-bit seeds, which is not random enough in the face of modern cracking technologies (such as GPUs). Trust Wallet and Binance Wallet do not use this method in mnemonic phrase generation and are not affected by its related vulnerabilities.
According to security company Slow Mist, Distrust has discovered a serious vulnerability affecting cryptocurrency wallets using the Libbitcoin Explorer 3.x version. This vulnerability allows attackers to access the wallet's private keys by cracking the Mersenne Twister pseudo-random number generator (PRNG). Known affected cryptocurrencies include Bitcoin, Ethereum, Ripple, Dogecoin, Solana, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash, and Zcash. Slow Mist advises all users of the Libbitcoin Explorer 3.x version to immediately stop using the affected wallets and transfer their funds to secure wallets.
