SBF's parents seek to dismiss the FTX kickback lawsuit
ChainCatcher news, according to a report by Cointelegraph, based on a court document dated January 15, the representatives of Joseph Bankman and Barbara Fried argue that the FTX lawsuit attempts to "exploit" the "pure fact" that they are the parents of the former FTX CEO. The FTX lawsuit claims that Bankman and Fried used their connections and influence within the FTX empire to enrich themselves at the expense of creditors in the FTX bankruptcy estate.
Bankman and Fried deny these allegations, asserting that most of the claims are based on their relationship with their son. The lawyers dismissed the assertion that there was a trust relationship between Bankman and FTX and that he acted as an actual director, but stated that even if such a trust relationship existed, the plaintiffs failed to reasonably allege any breach of duty.
It is reported that for several months, FTX has been trying to recover millions of dollars in cash and gifts from the Bankman couple, including a $16.4 million villa in the Bahamas.
