Ethereum Foundation member Justin Drake: The long-term plan is to use SNARKs to scale the execution of L1 EVM

2024-09-05 21:15:34

ChainCatcher message, Ethereum Foundation member Justin Drake answered the question "Are there any further plans to expand Ethereum Layer 1?" during the AMA.

Justin Drake stated: "The long-term sustainable elegant plan is to leverage SNARKs to scale L1 EVM execution without limits. Through real-time L1 EVM SNARKing, validators can verify cheap SNARKs instead of re-executing EVM transactions. In addition to the vertical scaling benefits brought by significantly increasing the L1 EVM gas limit, there is also the opportunity to use EVM-in-EVM precompiles for arbitrary horizontal scaling, allowing for cheap verification of EVM execution within EVM."
