ChainCatcher news, according to Decrypt, the daughter and grandson of the co-founder of the French cryptocurrency exchange Paymium were the victims of an attempted armed kidnapping in the 11th arrondissement of Paris. Four masked assailants tried to forcibly take the victims away but ultimately fled due to the victims' resistance and intervention from bystanders.

According to security expert Jameson Lopp, there have been 22 violent crime cases targeting cryptocurrency-related individuals globally in 2025, a number that is close to the 24 cases recorded for the entire year of 2023.

Data shows that there have been at least 6 cryptocurrency-related kidnapping cases in France this year, including the kidnapping and finger amputation incident involving a co-founder of Ledger in January. Such crimes are showing an international trend, with kidnapping cases demanding ransom in cryptocurrency reported in the Philippines, Hong Kong, and Brazil.

It is noteworthy that criminals often target the relatives of cryptocurrency practitioners, exploiting the difficult-to-trace nature of digital currencies for extortion. Currently, the Paris police have seized the vehicle used in the crime, and the investigation is ongoing.
