Federal Reserve Survey: 10% of American Adults to Use or Hold Cryptocurrency by 2025
A Federal Reserve survey shows that cryptocurrency usage in the U.S. is expected to rise in 2025, with about 10% of American adults reporting that they used or held cryptocurrency within the year, up from 7% in 2024, marking the highest level since 2022.
The survey indicates that approximately 7% of American adults hold cryptocurrency as an investment, with investment exposure being the largest participation category. The approval and growth of spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs have influenced the rebound in retail participation. Data shows that cryptocurrency adoption is most concentrated among adults under 45 and households with incomes above the national median. Additionally, the role of cryptocurrency in everyday consumer payments remains small, as American consumers primarily view it as an investment asset.
