Affected by Google's bond issuance plan and reports related to the Federal Reserve's interest rate hikes, U.S. Treasury bonds have widened their decline

2026-08-06 20:29:10

U.S. Treasury bonds faced pressure in the New York morning session. Google announced the launch of a 10-part bond issuance, dragging down the long end of the yield curve and pushing the 2s10s and 5s30s spreads to intraday highs. On the short end, reports indicated that if inflation data released in the coming weeks is hotter than expected, Federal Reserve Chairman Kevin Walsh "will be prepared to raise rates at the September meeting."

Following the report, short-term U.S. Treasury yields rose. U.S. Treasury yields increased across the board by 3 to 4 basis points, with long-term bonds leading the decline, and the 2s10s and 5s30s spreads steepening by about 1 basis point to their widest intraday levels. The yield on the 10-year U.S. Treasury rose to about 4.65%, up 3.5 basis points on the day.

Google's bond issuance covers multiple maturities, with the shortest being 2 years and the longest being 40 years. The interest rate market is currently pricing in about 15 basis points of rate hike expectations for September, with cumulative rate hike expectations of about 33 basis points by the end of the year.
