Kalshi applies to launch a copper perpetual contract, using Pyth Network price data and with no expiration date

2026-08-20 03:18:52

Market operator Kalshi has submitted an application to the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to launch a copper perpetual contract COPPERPERP. This contract will track the spot price of copper priced in U.S. dollars and will use price data from blockchain market data provider Pyth Network.

The contract will be cash-settled and will not involve physical copper delivery; periodic payments between long and short traders will help keep the contract price aligned with the copper price. Perpetual contracts have no expiration date, allowing traders to hold positions indefinitely without needing to roll over to a new contract. Kalshi was previously approved in May to offer Bitcoin perpetual contracts and has submitted an application for index perpetual contracts. Less than a week before the copper perpetual contract application was submitted, a judge in Washington state had ordered the company to cease offering bets related to sports, elections, politics, and other events in the area.
