Steak 'n Shake reported double-digit growth in same-store sales after accepting Bitcoin
The American hamburger chain Steak 'n Shake stated on platform X that since it began accepting Bitcoin payments in May 2025, the company has achieved double-digit growth in same-store sales, with franchise same-store sales increasing by 19% this quarter. The company processes Bitcoin payments through the Lightning Network.
Steak 'n Shake's Chief MAHA Officer Michael Boes stated at the Bitcoin 2026 conference that Bitcoin has become the core driving force behind the chain's business performance. Same-store sales grew by 11% quarter-over-quarter in the second quarter of 2025, accelerating to 15% in the third quarter, surpassing major competitors such as McDonald's, Taco Bell, and Domino's Pizza.
When paying with Bitcoin, Steak 'n Shake can save about 50% on processing fees, as traditional credit card processors charge a fee of 2.5% to 3.5% per transaction. The company also incorporated $10 million in Bitcoin into its strategic reserves this January and had considered accepting other cryptocurrencies, but abandoned the plan after a vote on platform X showed users believed only Bitcoin was necessary.
