Trump praised Anthropic CEO as "outstanding."

According to The Wall Street Journal, on September 30, Beijing time, U.S. President Trump had lunch with about 24 CEOs of technology companies and industry leaders, including Dario Amodei, CEO of AI company Anthropic, with whom he had previously had a strained relationship. Trump praised Amodei as "outstanding" and called NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang "a handsome guy," and Google CEO Sundar Pichai "an impressive figure."

The two sides had previously clashed over the military use of Anthropic's AI models. Trump reiterated his stance on relaxed regulation, while Amodei criticized this position and had previously warned that AI could pose serious risks to humanity, calling for a slowdown in development. The two met face-to-face for the first time last Sunday; on Tuesday, Amodei attended a White House lunch after meeting with Senate Majority Leader John Thune at the Capitol a day earlier.

Thune and Senator Amy Klobuchar are pushing for a bill aimed at preventing catastrophic harm from AI. Amodei stated on Tuesday, "If we get this right, if we work with the president and everyone here, we can succeed while ensuring safety."
