Exclusive Interview with Bitget's Xie Jiayin: The Responsibility and Ambition Behind UEX's Layout and Eight Years of Growth
Interview: Tong, PANews
Editor: Zen, PANews
During TOKEN2049 in 2026, PANews had a conversation with Xie Jiayin, the head of Greater China at Bitget.
This year marks the eighth anniversary of Bitget's establishment and also the eighth year since Xie Jiayin entered the cryptocurrency industry. From being a newcomer in the industry to now being an executive at an exchange, he has experienced multiple changes in the cryptocurrency market and witnessed Bitget's development from an emerging exchange to its current state.
Just before the interview, Bitget experienced its only security incident in eight years at the end of September. How the incident was handled, accountability, and responsibility became the first topics of discussion in this conversation.
Additionally, regarding Bitget's ongoing panoramic exchange (UEX) strategy, Xie Jiayin shared the progress of trading traditional financial assets such as U.S. stocks, gold, and foreign exchange, as well as the changes in user demographics brought about by new products.
From professional growth, user service to product innovation and future planning, here are the main points of this interview:
Responding to the Security Incident: Trust Must Be Earned Through Action
PANews: You and your team must have been very busy over the past two weeks. At the end of September, Bitget experienced a security incident, and now things have settled down. What was the outcome of the handling of the entire incident? Did it have any impact on Bitget?
Xie Jiayin: Frankly speaking, this is the only security incident we have had in eight years. I think the entire handling plan was quite timely.
First of all, I mentioned at the time that Bitget is a platform with accountability, and everyone need not worry. For user assets, Bitget allowed withdrawals. Only on the first day did users withdraw coins, and by the second day, many assets had already started to come back.
Trust is never taken for granted; it needs to be earned through actions time and again. Since users have chosen to trust Bitget, we must find ways to uphold that trust.
Therefore, this crisis may not necessarily be a bad thing for us. I have always believed that a crisis cannot end a platform; accountability can redefine a platform.
Just like a ship sailing in the ocean, only through the test of storms can it prove to be strong enough.
In fact, I have always told my friends that I have ambition, and Bitget has ambition too. This year marks my eighth year in the industry and Bitget's eighth anniversary.
Eight Years of Professional Growth: From Executor to Manager, Transmitting the Platform's Trust to Users
PANews: You and Bitget have been in the crypto industry for eight years. Looking back at your growth along the way, what changes do you feel in your mindset, and what have you gained?
Xie Jiayin: I think a significant change is the transition from being an executor to now being a manager. Eight years ago, when I first entered the industry, I was still a "newbie" in the workplace. However, after eight years of honing, I have built myself into a "unyielding body," able to withstand pressure and lead the team forward.
Whether it is me or Bitget, we are both transitioning from proving ourselves to expressing ourselves. I think this is a good transformation, indicating that the brand is becoming stronger and gaining more recognition from users.
PANews: I think Jiayin has now become a business card for Bitget.
Xie Jiayin: This is mutually reinforcing; the platform has made me who I am. Frankly speaking, without Bitget, there would be no today for me.
We should not mistakenly regard the platform as our own ability. I can only say that I represent the more than 2,100 employees of Bitget, being one of the people pushed to the front. It is not that I am so great, but because the platform is strong enough that others think Xie Jiayin is impressive.
Bitget has given me a great stage and a very solid backing.
PANews: Many friends should know your previous story. You once shared on social media how you came from an ordinary family in the countryside and gradually made it to where you are today. Do these growth experiences and the process of working in the industry make it easier for you to understand users and develop empathy when serving them?
Xie Jiayin: Of course. I have always said that I come from the masses and now return to the masses.
Although I am now an executive at Bitget, I still want to bring services to the public and deliver them to everyone.
Therefore, I require the team to serve all customers, whether they are VIP clients, regular clients, or channels and other partners; we need to respond quickly and solve problems promptly.
User trust is accumulated slowly through small matters. It is not that one day you send them a gift box, and they will like you; rather, it is whether you can truly help users solve their problems.
Because I come from a very ordinary family, I understand how difficult it is for ordinary people to achieve some dreams or solve some problems, as I have gone through these processes myself.
So, having been through the rain myself, I want to hold an umbrella for others.
PANews: I remember a case where a user might have charged the wrong coin; although the amount may not be large, you would still mobilize many resources to help them solve the problem. Such situations should be quite common, right?
Xie Jiayin: Very common. Over these eight years, we have helped users recover assets without ever charging any fees.
Just yesterday, a customer charged the wrong gold asset, worth about $160,000, to another chain that we had not opened.
In the end, we created a group and organized a collaboration team of eight people, and we helped him solve the problem in about 30 minutes.
Similar things happen frequently, so I always remind everyone to be sure to check carefully when recharging and select the correct network.
UEX Panoramic Exchange: From Crypto to U.S. Stocks, Gold, and Foreign Exchange
PANews: Bitget is a fast-paced team, and the cryptocurrency industry itself changes rapidly. Policy regulations, market conditions, and user demands change almost daily. This poses significant challenges to your work. Do you feel anxious? How do you cope with this anxiety?
Xie Jiayin: I think anxiety is phase-based.
Frankly speaking, sometimes when we see others launching new features or products, we may feel anxious. But we have also made others anxious before.
When we launched UEX last September, I could clearly feel that competitors began to feel anxious.
So, having anxiety is inevitable; we need to continuously refine our products and innovate. Because times have changed, users have changed, and if you do not change, you will only fall behind.
We have been overturning some of our past strategies. Some mature strategies and successful experiences from the past may no longer be applicable now or in the future.
PANews: You just mentioned UEX, which I think is a forward-looking judgment from your team. Why did you decide to lay out these changes a year in advance? After this strategy was implemented, what impact did it have on Bitget's users and market operations?
Xie Jiayin: This is a very interesting matter.
When we announced our intention to create the UEX panoramic exchange last September, many people thought it was something that was unlikely to be realized or felt it was too complex and too far away.
Some people might think that as an exchange, you should just focus on doing crypto well and not venture into U.S. stocks or touch businesses like gold, foreign exchange, and silver.
But I believe that our strategy must always stay ahead of market competitors by at least six months. As an exchange, we need to continuously provide trading opportunities for users.
In September last year, Bitget launched U.S. stock trading services, initially through integration with Ondo to provide related services. Subsequently, in response to user feedback regarding operational experience issues, we began developing the tokenized U.S. stock protocol Reality by the end of December that same year. This system directly connects to the liquidity of NASDAQ and the New York Stock Exchange, enhancing trading execution efficiency while supporting direct deposit of dividends.
Thanks to this liquidity access mechanism, Bitget's rToken has strong competitiveness in terms of liquidity. After the new system went live, the daily trading volume of U.S. stock business reached a maximum of $10 billion. However, trading activity is still affected by market conditions; when the U.S. stock market performs poorly, related trading volume will also decline accordingly.
On January 5 of this year, we launched gold, foreign exchange, and silver businesses, integrating with MT5.
Currently, Bitget's contracts for difference (CFD) business in gold, foreign exchange, and other areas has reached a considerable scale, achieving an upper-middle level in the industry even compared to traditional foreign exchange trading platforms.
In terms of U.S. stocks, our U.S. stock derivatives have reached a 19.5% market share, making us the second-largest U.S. stock derivatives market globally, second only to Binance.
PANews: From the user perspective, have you observed that existing crypto users are beginning to shift towards traditional financial assets, or has the provision of trading channels for these traditional assets attracted new users to Bitget?
Xie Jiayin: Actually, it’s both.
About two months ago, we conducted a survey and found that among the new users registered this year, one in four was trading U.S. stocks or foreign exchange.
We have indeed attracted some users from the traditional foreign exchange and U.S. stock markets, but we have not yet reached the scale I envisioned, so we need to continue working hard.
In previous years, Bitget did not have C2C business. To expand into more markets, we have also launched C2C functionality to provide an entry point for everyone.
From Dark Horse to Leading Exchange: Product Innovation, User Service, and Long-Termism
PANews: This year marks Bitget's eighth anniversary. In the cryptocurrency industry, eight years is a significant journey. From being a dark horse exchange to now being among the leaders, what do you think are the main reasons for its rapid growth and the establishment of its competitive barriers?
Xie Jiayin: First and foremost, it’s the product. We have indeed led the market in terms of products and are the first platform in the world to launch copy trading.
We can identify user needs and anticipate what products users might want.
Additionally, I hope users can see Bitget people everywhere and feel secure. When they want to find someone from Bitget, they can find them anytime.
Moreover, there is Bitget's transparency, including asset transparency and proof of asset reserves. We disclose this information publicly every month, and as of the end of September, our asset reserve proof was 131%.
In the process of operating an exchange, I believe long-termism is more important.
We need to maintain respect for products, the market, and users while continuously delving into our products to remain competitive.
Future Goals: Making Bitget One of the Top Three Choices for Chinese-speaking Users
PANews: Standing at the juncture of Bitget's eighth anniversary, looking ahead, what are Bitget's next goals and vision? What role do you hope to play in this process?
Xie Jiayin: Frankly speaking, my personal goal is to make Bitget one of the top three choices for Chinese-speaking users.
This is my goal, to ensure that users can truly recognize Bitget.
PANews: So what are your plans for personal development moving forward?
Xie Jiayin: I want to help the team perform better and grow.
I hope each team member can do better than I do, because only when they continue to grow can the platform develop better.
PANews: Finally, let me add one more question. If today I am a newcomer from outside the industry, how would you recommend Bitget to me?
Xie Jiayin: I would tell him that Bitget is a one-stop financial operation platform.
Here, you can not only trade U.S. stocks and Hong Kong stocks but also trade gold and crypto, enabling global asset allocation. This is a great choice.
