Musk: If SpaceX and Tesla merge, it may create a corporate giant holding over 30,000 BTC
Elon Musk stated during SpaceX's third-quarter earnings call that SpaceX and Tesla's boards have established a special independent committee to evaluate the possibility of merging the two companies. According to Tesla's latest quarterly filings and the S-1 documents submitted prior to SpaceX's IPO, the two companies hold 11,509 and 18,712 bitcoins respectively, totaling 30,221 bitcoins. At a bitcoin price of approximately $83,000, this is valued at about $2.5 billion, with the combined cost basis for the two companies' bitcoin holdings being around $1 billion, averaging a purchase price of about $35,000 per bitcoin.
If the merger is completed, these bitcoins will be included on the same company's balance sheet, making the merged entity one of the publicly traded companies with the largest bitcoin holdings in the world. However, currently, neither company has disclosed plans to increase or sell their bitcoin holdings, and the merger is still in the preliminary evaluation stage.
