Anthropic invested 3.4 billion USD to purchase gas power generation equipment to supply power for data centers

According to the Financial Times, as AI laboratories increase their involvement in the energy sector and bypass intermediaries in the competition for scarce power equipment, Anthropic has secured a massive procurement deal for gas generators. This cutting-edge AI laboratory has committed to purchasing 1.7 gigawatts of heavy-duty generators from the Texas-based equipment supplier OnePWR Solutions for $3.4 billion in late September.

Anthropic did not acquire OnePWR itself, but the deal also includes the engineering and construction capabilities necessary for installing the generators. According to an informed source, no employees from OnePWR have transitioned to Anthropic. The source also mentioned that OnePWR had ordered generators from Caterpillar two years ago but needed financing to complete the deal. Anthropic initially planned to become a customer of OnePWR but later chose to take over the equipment ordered from Caterpillar.
