first_img ASUS and GIGABYTE have raised the prices of graphics cards in mainland China, with increases of up to 500 yuan

ASUS and Gigabyte, among other graphics card manufacturers, plan to raise product prices in the mainland Chinese market again in September, by up to 500 yuan (approximately 2,300 New Taiwan dollars). The price increase effect will also boost the performance of ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, Leadtek, and Chengqi.According to reports from mainland Chinese media IT Home, ASUS will raise the net cost price of the NVIDIA RTX 5070 series by 150 to 300 yuan in September, while prices for other series models will remain unchanged. Gigabyte will increase the price of all models in the NVIDIA RTX 5060TI 16G series by 200 yuan in September, while other models will remain the same. AMD's RX 9070 XT series will increase by 200 yuan; the RX 9060 XT 16G/8G series will increase by 200 to 250 yuan; and the RX 7650 GRE series will increase by 400 yuan.The main reason for the price increase is the shortage of memory, and production capacity has also shifted towards manufacturing AI computing power GPUs. NVIDIA has again lowered the overall shipment volume of consumer GPUs by 15% to 20% for the third quarter, and the estimated supply for various brands in September is similar to that in August, with supply still tight. The high-end models such as the NVIDIA RTX 5080 and 5070 TI remain among the most out-of-stock models. MSI's product manager Peng Renfang revealed that customers from mainland China, Taiwan, and the United States are actively placing orders, with the first batch of laptops equipped with the high-end N1X chip nearly sold out, and they are actively following up with NVIDIA for more orders.The RTX Spark super chip is built using TSMC's 3-nanometer process, featuring NVIDIA's Blackwell RTX GPU connected to a 20-core Grace CPU, utilizing a Windows on Arm architecture. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang noted that RTX Spark brings together CUDA, RTX, and AI platforms into a single super chip, allowing ground agents, front-end models, creative workflows, and RTX games to run on laptops, "This is the new PC, personal AI computer." The processors are divided into the high-end N1x and the mainstream N1, with the actual selling price of PCs equipped with N1x yet to be announced, but the market generally believes it will start from 110,000 yuan. According to DIGITIMES, the NB supply chain has reported that brand manufacturers are significantly returning to production in China, with "returning to China for production" becoming a new trend. Brands such as HP, ASUS, and Acer have recently noticeably reduced their originally planned capacity shifts to Southeast Asia, with production focus returning to Chongqing or Kunshan in China, and increasing orders to Chinese ODM or EMS manufacturers and the proportion of private label products. This involves production lines at Quanta, Inventec's Thailand factories, and Compal, Wistron’s Vietnam factories, which may be affected by customer transfers. Lenovo, Dell, and Apple, on the other hand, remain relatively unchanged.The supply chain indicates that after the U.S. equivalent tariffs were ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, the impact of substitute tariffs is smaller, and the production costs for NB in Southeast Asia are on average $9 higher per unit than in China. The gross profit margin for brand manufacturers per unit of NB is mostly between 3% to 10%. Based on a low-priced model with an average price of about $300, the $9 difference is close to or even exceeds their profit, resulting in unprofitable shipments. Local Chinese governments are also demanding increased production due to reduced tax revenues, or they will reclaim past subsidies, creating a pull for returning production.Relevant ODM personnel stated that they will respect customer decisions, and if they cannot take on a single product, they will shift production locally to servers and other product lines such as networking. Lenovo is more cautious due to its diversified layout, with limited relocation; Dell has not significantly returned due to the high proportion of U.S. government orders; Apple targets the high-end market and promotes automation, with the main reason for relocating MacBook production from Shanghai being the pandemic-related supply chain disruptions, and its plans in Vietnam remain unchanged to date.

Several major PC manufacturers have completed certification for Changxin DRAM chips around mid-year and have begun to incorporate them in small batches into certain laptops.The strategies adopted by different brands show significant differences: Dell has completely banned the use of Changxin chips; HP restricts their use to the mainland China market; Acer and ASUS have incorporated them into models aimed at the mainland China and emerging markets. Currently, the impact of Changxin products on the overall market prices of the three major memory giants remains limited, mainly because Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron are currently more inclined to supply LPDDR5, while Changxin's current strategic focus is on expanding DDR5 shipments. Executives from PC companies have stated that the three major manufacturers hold over 90% of the global DRAM market share, and large-scale adoption must be approached with high caution. Currently, the number and usage of models using Changxin chips are quite limited.
