Blockparty co-founder arrested by the FBI and accused of stealing $1 million worth of Bitcoin and cash
ChainCatcher news, according to The Block, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) today arrested Rikesh Thapa, co-founder of the NFT digital collectibles platform Blockparty. Thapa is accused of defrauding Blockparty of $1 million in cash and cryptocurrency to purchase luxury goods. It is reported that Thapa is charged with wire fraud, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.The U.S. Department of Justice stated that 28-year-old Thapa served as the Chief Technology Officer of Blockparty from 2017 to 2019, during which he stole 10 bitcoins from the company and forged transaction records to cover his tracks. Additionally, prosecutors further accused Thapa of stealing Blockparty's utility tokens to sell to potential investors. (Source link)
