Boltz indefinitely suspends Bitcoin exchange services due to AI-assisted attacks
The non-custodial Bitcoin exchange service Boltz has indefinitely suspended its Bitcoin exchange services and stated that the related services will be disabled until further notice, with no recovery time currently available. Boltz allows users to transfer Bitcoin between the Lightning Network and the Bitcoin base layer without the company holding user funds during the process.Boltz stated that in recent months, its infrastructure has faced an increasing number of automated, AI-assisted detection attempts and has dealt with multiple exploitation incidents. The company claims that each incident has been contained, but the speed of the attackers' iterations has exceeded the team's ability to discover and patch vulnerabilities. Boltz disclosed that in the past few days, the pace of attacks has accelerated, and after reviewing recent security scan results, the company believes it cannot responsibly re-enable the exchange services. Its API is still available for processing collaborative refunds, and unilateral refunds can still operate as they do not rely on Boltz's infrastructure, with customer support remaining available.
