Coinbase agrees to pay $2.25 million in settlement to end Dogecoin lottery lawsuit
ChainCatcher news, Coinbase has recently agreed to pay $2.25 million in settlement with marketing company Marden-Kane to resolve a years-long class action lawsuit. The lawsuit alleged that Coinbase did not clearly inform users that they could participate for free in the Dogecoin trading lottery held in June 2021, which was accused of false advertising. According to the settlement agreement, U.S. users who traded at least $100 worth of Dogecoin during the event will receive compensation, amounting to the fees and price differences incurred from their first transaction.Data shows that Coinbase earned approximately $1.3 million in fee revenue from related transactions during the event. The lawsuit began in 2021, with plaintiff David Suski claiming that he traded through Coinbase despite already holding Dogecoin because he did not notice the terms for free participation in the event. The U.S. Supreme Court rejected Coinbase's request for mandatory arbitration last year.
