The drag of Trump's tariffs on Asian economic growth is greater than in 2018-19
ChainCatcher news, Morgan Stanley economists indicate that Trump's imposition of reciprocal tariffs on Asia may have a greater drag on economic growth than in 2018-19, given that most countries in the region have a trade surplus with the United States, making Asia more vulnerable to tariffs.
Economists state that the focus will be on whether these countries can negotiate an agreement with the United States to lower tariffs. Economists point out: "The rise in policy uncertainty will dampen business confidence, which in turn will suppress capital spending and trade. We believe that the more trade-oriented an economy is, the greater the drag (tariffs) will have on economic growth."
