According to ChainCatcher news reported by Decrypt, a man in New York, USA, was arrested for allegedly kidnapping and torturing a victim to obtain his Bitcoin wallet password.

The suspect, John Woeltz (37), was arrested last Friday. Prosecutors stated that a 28-year-old Italian victim was held captive in a luxury apartment in Manhattan for several weeks, during which he was subjected to binding, beating, drug injections, and electric shocks. The victim ultimately managed to escape on May 24 through a scheme.

Police discovered tools used in the crime, including cocaine, a chainsaw, barbed wire, and night vision goggles, at the scene. Prosecutors indicated that Woeltz did not act alone, and there are other accomplices at large. Woeltz has been charged with kidnapping, assault, unlawful imprisonment, and illegal possession of weapons, and the court has ordered him to be held without bail.
