Square is testing Bitcoin Lightning Network payments in Las Vegas, planning a full rollout in 2026
ChainCatcher news, Block's payment company Square launched a Bitcoin payment pilot on May 28 during the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas. Attendees can complete real-time settlements using the Lightning Network by scanning a barcode, with the exchange rate automatically calculated by the Square system. This feature will be available to all customers in 2026, pending regulatory approval.Miles Suter, Bitcoin product lead at Square's parent company Block, stated that this initiative aims to provide merchants with an open, decentralized, low-cost payment solution. The current Bitcoin price is $108,877.70, and the pilot will last for three days.
