The Bitcoin ecosystem USDT issuer Utexo announced the early access to Utexo Mint, aimed at professional operators ready to support and provide USDT on Bitcoin, with the public launch scheduled for November 28. Utexo stated that existing partners are preparing for the launch, and it is currently open for access to exchanges, wallets, market makers, OTC desks, trading companies, and other professional operators interested in supporting USDT on Bitcoin.Utexo Mint is a dedicated platform for verified operators to mint and redeem USDT on Bitcoin. In the sandbox environment, operators can test the operation of USDT based on RGB, including minting, confidential transfers, and redemptions, to validate transaction processes and complete integration before the launch. Utexo will also provide tools for managing USDT liquidity across supported networks and for fiat to USDT exchanges. Utexo Mint is not owned or operated by Tether, and USDT on Bitcoin is supported by USDT through Tether's USDT0 protocol.USDT was first launched on Bitcoin in 2014, and this return will bring stablecoin liquidity to the ecosystem and expand scenarios such as trading and BTC collateralized lending. Utexo stated that USDT on Bitcoin is launched by Utexo rather than Tether, designed with privacy features, and USDT on RGB avoids address reuse. In terms of compliance, Utexo claims it will monitor all sourced USDT, check AML scores, and monitor RGB-side risks, while collaborating with Crystal Intelligence for AML efforts. The launch will occur in two phases: on November 28, USDT will be publicly available on the Bitcoin network through RGB, accessible via partner wallets and exchanges; the second phase is planned for the first quarter of 2027 to expand USDT to the Lightning Network for payments.

According to CoinDesk, Tether's USDT will return to the Bitcoin network this month, issued through the Tether-supported infrastructure project Utexo. With a market capitalization of nearly $190 billion, USDT is the largest stablecoin in the world, originally launched on the Bitcoin Omni protocol in 2014, and later Ethereum and Tron became its main issuance networks. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino stated on X last week, "It's home."Utexo was established in 2025 and completed a $7.5 million financing round earlier this year, led by Tether, and has obtained a commercial license to issue USDT on Bitcoin.Utexo uses the RGB protocol with client-side validation, keeping most transaction data off the Bitcoin public ledger, with ownership anchored on UTXO. Unlike the account models of Ethereum and Tron, transaction details are fully preserved off-chain between the two parties, with the Bitcoin ledger used solely for cryptographic proof of ownership.Utexo offers three main use cases: private USDT transfers, direct exchanges between native BTC and USDT, and lending with native Bitcoin as collateral, without the need for cross-chain wrapping like WBTC.Since RGB assets are ultimately anchored to Bitcoin UTXO, Utexo cannot freeze assets like Tether can freeze Ethereum addresses, but instead maintains a blacklist of UTXO related to sanctioned or illegal activities and distributes it to exchanges and other institutions, making these UTXO non-redeemable.

USDT will return to the Bitcoin network, and UTEXO will natively issue Bitcoin version USDT through the RGB protocol

Tether is preparing to natively issue USDT on the Bitcoin network based on the RGB v0.11.1 protocol, with commercialization and distribution handled by UTEXO. This will mark the return of USDT to the Bitcoin main chain after many years since it first landed on Bitcoin via the Omni protocol in 2014. Viktor Ihnatiuk, co-founder of UTEXO, stated that the company has received support from Tether to promote the implementation of native Bitcoin USDT.The RGB protocol employs client-side validation and integrates with the Lightning Network, enabling instant, low-cost, and private transactions of USDT while inheriting the security model of Bitcoin UTXO. In the future, users will be able to hold USDT directly through native Bitcoin addresses and complete transactions using Lightning Network wallets that support RGB, without relying on other public chains or intermediaries. Compared to the account model networks where USDT is primarily circulated, such as TRON and Ethereum, RGB naturally supports one-time addresses using the UTXO model and facilitates off-chain payments through the Lightning Network, effectively enhancing transaction privacy. Additionally, UTEXO is deeply integrated with Tether, reducing intermediary fees and data collection, and users can also convert USDT between different public chains at low cost through its already launched cross-chain bridge.
