CryptoQuant founder admits mistake, misinterprets CME positions, leveraged funds still maintain net short positions in BTC

CryptoQuant founder Ki Young Ju posted on the X platform, correcting the previous analysis of CME Bitcoin futures positions, stating that "Total Reportables (large institutional traders)" was mistakenly labeled as "Leveraged Funds," leading to the belief that CME hedge funds rarely turned into net long positions in BTC futures. However, the actual situation is that leveraged funds still maintain net short positions in BTC futures.Ki Young Ju provided CFTC futures position data as of August 4: 1. Large institutional traders overall show a slight net long position, which includes asset management institutions, market makers, dealers, etc. Ki Young Ju stated that although the net long extent is limited, the previous judgment about institutional direction being bullish still holds. 2. Leveraged funds still maintain net short positions in BTC futures, but over the past year, their standard BTC futures net short position has decreased by about 50% (measured in BTC), mainly due to the decline in basis trading returns. When the futures basis returns fell below U.S. Treasury yields, the arbitrage space narrowed. Leveraged funds currently show a net long position in Micro BTC futures, but the scale is small, only about +394 BTC, which is approximately 1% of the standard BTC futures net short position. Ki Young Ju indicated that leveraged funds overall have not yet turned into net long positions, but their long-term structural shorts are clearly weakening, which may reflect the closing of arbitrage trades and adjustments in directional positions.

Tom Lee is optimistic about Robinhood Chain: it could be the most successful story in the crypto market this year

Tom Lee, Chairman of Bitmine and Co-founder of Fundstrat, stated that the blockchain project Robinhood Chain launched by Robinhood has become the "biggest success story" in the crypto industry for 2026, being a groundbreaking project in terms of cumulative trading volume, total value locked (TVL), and potential market size.Lee pointed out that the biggest advantage of Robinhood Chain lies in its massive user base. Robinhood (HOOD) is opening this service to its approximately 27 million users, which itself constitutes a huge potential market. Ethereum (ETH) has also been continuously developing in recent years, although its growth has been relatively low-key, gradually expanding its application scope mainly through stablecoin settlements and crypto payments and asset purchases on platforms like Shopify. He believes that directly connecting 27 million Robinhood users to the Ethereum economic system will have a significant impact on the crypto industry, likely further promoting the expansion of blockchain applications from native crypto users to mainstream financial users. The success of Robinhood Chain is not only reflected in its technological aspects but, more importantly, in its ability to connect traditional financial users, trading platforms, and the Ethereum ecosystem, potentially becoming an important case for the mainstream adoption of crypto assets.

Serenity: Still optimistic about the storage sector, market focus shifts back to the photonics field

Serenity posted that it remains bullish on the storage sector represented by Micron (MU) and Samsung, believing that the market often rotates between different supply bottlenecks. This week, stocks in the photonics sector, such as AXTI and LITE, have once again become the focus; compared to the decline in July, the main change is the stock price, followed by scattered narratives and business updates. He pointed out that the market was already aware during the July decline that COHR and LITE's laser products would be sold out for the next two years, and it had also learned about the demand imbalance from AAOI's last quarter earnings call. Aside from the changes in stock prices after liquidation, the fundamentals of the photonics sector have not deteriorated; the bottlenecks in optical transceivers and indium phosphide substrates remain unchanged and may even worsen. In terms of storage, Serenity stated that retail investors are showing signs of capitulation, but the same group had previously signed 16 SCAs with MU and had extremely bullish forecasts. He believes that the current operating profit to market value ratio of the storage business is "extremely unreasonable," and that next year's demand imbalance may be even more severe; the only thing that has changed for the same company is the valuation and narrative, while the market rotates between different sectors.

hot_img OpenAI publicly responds to Apple's lawsuit: describes it as "careless, aggressive, and personal," stating that Apple mistakenly sent a lawyer's letter and confused the recipient

OpenAI issued a public statement on August 3 in response to the lawsuit filed by Apple. OpenAI described Apple's lawsuit as "careless, aggressive, and personal," and pointed out several factual inaccuracies: an external lawyer from Apple mistakenly sent an email intended for someone else to OpenAI's legal head, falsely claiming that the two parties had spoken over the phone; Apple later admitted it was due to "confusing two Asian surnames." OpenAI also revealed that after contacting Apple in February, Apple stated it was "working to resolve any issues," but then did not communicate for 5 months until filing the lawsuit.Regarding the allegations against former Apple employee Chang Liu for taking confidential information, OpenAI presented iMessage records from after his departure showing that Apple colleagues had proactively contacted him to request assistance in locating documents, and acknowledged that this was a common issue caused by Apple's "poor management of exit access." Another named executive, Tang Tan, had worked at Apple for over 24 years, and OpenAI stated that he had consistently required his team "not to use any confidential information from other companies." OpenAI indicated that it had proactively offered to cooperate in resolving the matter, but Apple chose to file a lawsuit, claiming that its request for a preliminary injunction was "based on false information and completely unnecessary." Previously, Apple sued OpenAI in July, accusing it of poaching Apple employees and using confidential information to develop AI products.

OKX, in collaboration with Elliptic, SlowMist, and OttoSec, released the Web3 Security and Risk Control Report for the first half of 2026

According to official news, OKX, in collaboration with Elliptic, SlowMist, and OttoSec, has released the "Web3 Security and Risk Control Report for the First Half of 2026." The report points out that the focus of Web3 attacks is gradually shifting from smart contract code to more complex scenarios such as signature processes, user devices, operational infrastructure, and AI Agents.Data shows that in the first half of 2026, the OKX risk control system intercepted over 5.7 million high-risk transactions, including approximately 2.41 million transactions related to hacking and theft, about 1.48 million transactions related to phishing, and around 990,000 transactions related to fraud. The OKX Web3 on-chain intelligence label library currently has over 1 billion labels, covering more than 420 chains, and has integrated capabilities such as address screening, transaction monitoring, and sanction address control into infrastructures like DEX and Exchange OS.In addition, in terms of user protection, OKX has intercepted over 7 million visits to risky websites, completed over 200,000 device risk assessments, identified over 60,000 high-risk apps, and intercepted or alerted on over 4 million high-risk signature operations. The report also introduces the "risk control pre-positioning" design in scenarios such as Exchange OS, Outcomes, RWA, and Agentic Wallet.

Data: Binance and Bybit stablecoin outflows exceed 2.3 billion USD in 30 days, Bitcoin liquidity is depleted, and market sentiment is pessimistic

CryptoQuant analyst Darkfost stated that the outflow of stablecoins from Binance and Bybit in the past 30 days exceeded $2.3 billion, leading to a depletion of Bitcoin liquidity. Bitcoin has been testing the critical price level of $60,000 for nearly 165 days. Although it briefly broke through $80,000 in May, it failed to maintain or reignite the upward momentum of Bitcoin. One of the reasons for this situation is the lack of new liquidity flowing into the market. Whether through direct investment in Bitcoin or investment in the entire crypto market, new demand has been difficult to realize. Observing the changes in stablecoin reserves at exchanges, the situation has been particularly poor since the beginning of the year, with a nearly continuous decline, reflecting that outflows are significantly exceeding inflows. In just the past 30 days, Binance's stablecoin reserves have decreased by $1.55 billion, while Bybit lost $786 million during the same period. The decline in reserves sends a clear signal: demand and liquidity are shrinking, and investors seem inclined to withdraw stablecoins from exchanges or even exit the market entirely. Therefore, it is this still overly pessimistic overall market sentiment that continues to deprive Bitcoin of the resources needed to break through the current consolidation range.
