Bitcoin ETFs faced a capital crunch, with withdrawals of $1.26 billion in a single week, while Ethereum ETFs have seen losses for 10 consecutive days

The U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF recorded a net outflow of approximately $1.26 billion this week, marking the largest single-week capital outflow since late January of this year, and has seen net redemptions for six consecutive trading days. Data shows that this type of product saw an outflow of about $649 million just on Monday. Although there was some easing in the following days, the overall trend of continuous outflow remained. Market participants pointed out that the recent rise in U.S. Treasury yields, the strengthening of the dollar, and geopolitical tensions are among the main reasons for the capital withdrawal. At the same time, Ethereum ETFs are also under pressure, experiencing net outflows for 10 consecutive trading days, the longest outflow period since March 2025. The total outflow for the week was approximately $216 million. Among them, BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) currently manages assets of about $61.1 billion, but this is still below the cumulative capital inflow of about $3.7 billion, indicating that recent market price fluctuations have impacted the value of holdings. As of the ETF trading day's close, the Bitcoin price was around $77,500, and Ethereum was about $2,130, maintaining a narrow range of fluctuations overall. Despite the significant short-term capital outflow, the spot Bitcoin ETF has still seen a cumulative net inflow of about $57.1 billion since its launch, with an asset scale of approximately $98.9 billion.

South Korean investors' holdings in cryptocurrency assets have shrunk by over 50% in a year, with funds accelerating flow into the stock market

Data submitted by the Bank of Korea to the National Assembly shows that the scale of cryptocurrency assets held by South Korean investors has decreased from 121.8 trillion won (approximately 8.33 billion USD) at the end of 2025 to 60.6 trillion won (approximately 4.14 billion USD) at the end of 2026, shrinking by more than 50% in one year. During the same period, the average daily trading volume of South Korea's five major exchanges—Upbit, Bithumb, Korbit, Coinone, and Gopax—also fell from 11.6 billion USD in December 2024 to 3 billion USD in February this year. The scale of deposits in exchanges in won has decreased from 10.7 trillion won to 7.8 trillion won, reflecting that some funds are flowing into the South Korean stock market. However, the holdings of stablecoins remain relatively strong. Data shows that South Korea's stablecoin holdings peaked at 597 million USD in December 2024 and fell to 41 million USD in February this year, with a decline significantly smaller than that of the overall cryptocurrency market. In addition, South Korean regulators plan to implement stricter anti-money laundering rules in August, automatically marking transactions involving overseas exchanges or private wallets exceeding 10 million won as suspicious transactions. The Digital Asset Exchange Association (DAXA) of South Korea has warned that this measure may lead users to turn to overseas platforms like Binance. The South Korean Ministry of Finance also recently confirmed for the first time that a 22% tax rate on cryptocurrency gains will officially take effect on January 1, 2027.

first_img Fortune Magazine: Paradigm, a16z crypto and other crypto VC asset management scales have significantly shrunk

According to Fortune magazine, in the context of a downturn in the crypto market in 2025 and the distribution of profits to investors, the portfolio values of crypto venture capital firms such as Paradigm and a16z crypto have significantly shrunk.According to filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the total assets under management (AUM) of four crypto funds under a16z crypto dropped nearly 40% from 2024 to 2025, falling to $9.5 billion. Part of the reason is that the firm began returning capital to investors from earlier funds, and the timing of the returns coincided with the market peak in 2025, with a net DPI (distributions to paid-in capital) of 5.4 for its first crypto fund.Multicoin Capital's AUM has more than halved, dropping to about $2.7 billion. Paradigm's holdings also slightly decreased by about 6%. Meanwhile, the total size of a16z crypto's parent company, Andreessen Horowitz, has exceeded $100 billion. The report points out that the shrinkage in assets under management reflects the decline in portfolio value due to the market downturn, and is also a sign of normal exits by VCs and the return of funds to limited partners (LPs). Some firms, such as Haun Ventures, have seen their AUM grow by over 30%, reaching around $2.5 billion.Currently, Paradigm is seeking to raise a new fund of $1.5 billion, and a16z crypto is also raising up to $2 billion for its fifth fund.
