The procuratorial authorities in Hunan, China, have dismantled a new type of money laundering chain that used Moutai liquor transactions as a cover and virtual currency as a channel

Recently, a first-instance verdict was announced in a case of concealing and hiding criminal proceeds, which was prosecuted by the People's Procuratorate of Yuetang District, Xiangtan City, Hunan Province, China. A new type of money laundering chain, disguised as a Maotai liquor transaction and using virtual currency as a channel, was completely dismantled, involving an amount of over 6.84 million yuan, with all 8 defendants sentenced. The gang had clear divisions of labor and strong concealment.Chen connected with upstream sources through overseas encrypted communication software, received telecom fraud proceeds, and contacted "U merchants" to complete the exchange and circulation of virtual currency; Xie was responsible for providing tools for the crime and keeping track of financial details; Huang used Maotai liquor trading as a cover to disguise the trajectory of the transfer of criminal proceeds with real transaction shells; the remaining members assisted with fund settlement and information transmission. The gang used fake Maotai liquor transactions as the "cleaning" stage, disguising overseas fraud proceeds as legitimate business income, converting them into virtual currency to return to upstream, and taking an illegal commission of 8% for each "cleaning."In December 2023, with a report from a victim, this black and gray industrial chain hidden under the guise of liquor trading surfaced. After the incident, the People's Procuratorate of Yuetang District intervened in the investigation early, guiding the public security organs to sort through nearly 20 million yuan in fund flows and massive electronic data, achieving a full-chain crackdown and comprehensive evidence collection. The court ultimately sentenced Xie and 7 other principal and accomplice offenders to fixed-term imprisonment ranging from 2 to 6 years for the crime of concealing and hiding criminal proceeds; the relatively minor offender Liang was sentenced to 1 year in prison with 1 year of probation.

The volatility of the macro environment has intensified market risk aversion, and Gate has launched the TradFi API and expanded institutional fiat channels

In the past week, global markets have been dominated by energy price shocks and geopolitical risks. The escalation of the situation in the Middle East has pushed international oil prices upward, with WTI crude oil seeing a weekly increase of over 25%.Affected by macro risk sentiment, BTC, ETH, and U.S. stocks have all retreated. On-chain data shows that DEX trading volumes remain high overall, with the total market cap of stablecoins rising to approximately $330 billion, and USDC becoming the main source of growth. In the derivatives market, the perpetual funding rate for BTC continues to be negative, and implied volatility for options has risen above 60%, indicating that the market remains cautious about tail risks. On the institutional side, as the linkage between traditional finance and the crypto market strengthens, institutional infrastructure continues to improve. Gate has recently launched a TradFi API, providing a more efficient execution environment for quantitative teams, institutional traders, and professional investors. Additionally, Gate has reached a strategic partnership with Bank Frick to integrate its xPULSE payment infrastructure, offering multi-currency fiat deposit and withdrawal channels for institutional clients. With the ongoing enhancement of trading and funding channel infrastructure, Gate is accelerating the construction of a comprehensive service system aimed at institutional clients.

Aave founder: RWA is the biggest opportunity for DeFi in recent times, but we must be wary of institutions using DeFi as a liquidity exit channel

Aave founder Stani.eth posted on the X platform, stating, "The private credit market is facing pressure in a high-interest-rate environment. Since the Federal Reserve began its rate hike cycle in 2022, interest rates have rapidly risen above 5% and remained high, leading to a significant increase in capital costs for borrowing businesses and consumers.Recent data shows that several funds have experienced stock price declines and redemption pressures, such as Blue Owl Capital, which has dropped about 50% over the past year, and Blackstone's BCRED, which is facing approximately $3.7 billion in redemption requests in Q1 2026. The average BDC is trading at about a 20% discount, with yields of 10-11%, and some funds have seen default rates rise to 9%.Stani.eth proposed three risk scenarios: a single fund default can be absorbed by the system, multiple fund defaults may trigger a downturn in the credit cycle, and a complete collapse could lead to systemic risk. However, the overall private credit market has a total size of about $1.8-2 trillion, making a single fund default unlikely to cause a systemic crisis. For DeFi investors, the biggest risk is that many retail users do not understand the risks involved before putting funds into high-yield RWA. I believe RWA is the biggest opportunity for DeFi in the near term. However, my biggest concern is that institutional speculators may view DeFi as a channel to offload illiquid and distressed products that Wall Street has lost confidence in, effectively using DeFi participants as an exit liquidity. However, well-functioning on-chain private credit can provide advantages that traditional finance cannot reach. DeFi can enforce redemption windows, withdrawal limits, collateral ratios, and profit distribution rules through smart contracts, achieving transparent and immutable execution, avoiding arbitrary tightening of redemption policies by traditional fund managers. Through carefully structured RWA projects, transparent and secure investment channels can be provided between traditional finance and on-chain markets. DeFi should not become a source of exit liquidity for Wall Street."

Anchorage Digital launches stablecoin solution, providing on-chain USD settlement channels for international banks

According to FinanceFeeds, crypto bank Anchorage Digital has announced the launch of "Stablecoin Solutions" aimed at international banks, designed to provide non-U.S. financial institutions with a U.S.-regulated digital dollar infrastructure as an alternative to traditional correspondent banking systems. The solution integrates stablecoin issuance, compliant custody, fiat fund management, and blockchain-native settlement functions, allowing banks to achieve cross-border circulation of dollar assets without relying on traditional correspondent banking networks.Anchorage stated that institutions can hold and settle tokenized dollar assets under its federal banking license framework. Anchorage is the first crypto-native institution to obtain a U.S. federal banking license, regulated by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).Company CEO Nathan McCauley stated that stablecoins are gradually becoming core financial infrastructure, and this solution provides banks with a pathway to achieve global dollar flows through blockchain rails while ensuring custody, compliance, and operational control. Anchorage's move is seen as an attempt to replace the traditional correspondent banking cross-border clearing system with a regulated stablecoin framework. If adopted by international banks, dollar stablecoins may further embed themselves into mainstream cross-border payment and fund management processes. However, the ultimate implementation still depends on the clarity of regulatory details and the global banking sector's acceptance of tokenized liability structures.

Chief Trade Research Department Deputy Director Eric Chong: High-net-worth investors have a strong demand for secure and compliant cryptocurrency channels

At the recent "Build and Scale in 2026" themed forum held in Hong Kong, Eric Chong, Deputy Director of the Chief Trade Research Department, delivered a speech on the topic "Connecting Finance and Web3: Building the Next Era of Investor Confidence." He stated that based on Chief Trade's 46 years of experience in financial services, there is a strong demand from high-net-worth investors for secure and compliant channels for cryptocurrency, which is the core driving force for traditional financial institutions to enter the Web3 space.Eric Chong pointed out that Hong Kong's comprehensive regulatory framework provides a safe environment for institutional participation in the crypto market, but investors are more concerned about how to engage in this emerging asset class through regulated and compliant means. To this end, Chief Trade will focus on three main directions: providing regulated crypto trading services, expanding the digital asset product line, and enhancing investor education. He believes that the advantages of traditional financial institutions in financial credibility, compliance frameworks, and ecological connections will help guide investors to enter the digital asset space steadily, while the integration of Web3 and traditional finance has become an irreversible structural trend.
