first_img Heatbit launched the $899 Bitwater component, heating water while mining Bitcoin

Heatbit, which previously launched a heater with a built-in Bitcoin mining machine, has announced the release of a heating element for water heaters named Bitwater. This element replaces the resistance wire in standard electric water heater elements with 20 Bitcoin mining chips, using the heat generated by the chips to directly heat the water in the tank. Heatbit stated that this electricity was originally intended for heating water, "the same heat, the same electricity, plus Bitcoin." The company claims that global households use approximately 300 TWh of electricity annually for heating water, which exceeds the entire Bitcoin network's consumption of about 170 TWh, advocating for the decentralization of mining to households.Bitwater uses 20 Bitmain BM1370 chips, with a maximum hash rate of 34 TH/s, a maximum power consumption of 600 watts, and an energy efficiency of 12 joules/TH. Due to water cooling, this element requires no fans and produces no noise. The installation process is DIY: turn off the circuit breaker, drain the tank, unscrew the old element, and then screw in the Bitwater using the included wrench. It is compatible with the one-inch standard interface of 30 to 80-gallon electric water heaters commonly found in the United States and Canada, including brands such as A. O. Smith, Rheem, Bradford White, Whirlpool, and GE, without the need for plumbing modifications or additional circuits.Users can check water temperature, hash rate, and earnings through an app, and choose to mine individually or join a mining pool, with mined Bitcoin sent to an address controlled by the user. The initial "genesis batch" pre-order price is $899, with subsequent batches priced up to $1,299, and pre-orders are refundable, with plans to ship in the first quarter of 2027. Heatbit claims to have tested the entire winter in four and five-person households in New York and Florida. Based on the current hash price of approximately $36.73/PH/s/day, the full load of 34 TH/s could mine Bitcoin worth about $1.25 per day, totaling approximately $455 annually.

first_img Alibaba Cloud helps Jielue Xingchen build a computing power factory, creating 30,000 sandboxes in minutes

The official account of Alibaba Cloud stated that the large model company Step Star has globally released its flagship open-source model Step 5 Preview, positioned as a primary working model for real-world intelligent agent tasks, excelling in AI programming, software engineering, professional knowledge work, and financial scenarios. The model has a total of 600 billion parameters and 27 billion active parameters, utilizing sparse MoE, with a maximum context window of 1 million, capable of processing text, images, and videos. The article mentions that it recently ranked second globally in both weekly and daily call volume on OpenRouter. On the day of the release, Alibaba Cloud announced the completion of DAY0 adaptation, optimized for joint inference based on chips, super node instances, and models, with inference computing power provided by the Lingjun super node.Step Star has developed its own intelligent agent reinforcement learning training platform, with the sandbox platform managed by Alibaba Cloud. The solution is based on Alibaba Cloud's Agent Sandbox and Kubernetes container service, aimed at elastic computing power in training mode, claiming to create tens of thousands of sandboxes in a single minute, with a maximum concurrency of up to one million, compatible with E2B API, and providing native Kubernetes interfaces. Through multi-level image caching, intelligent pre-scheduling, and control link optimization, it achieves millisecond-level application and minute-level creation of 30,000 sandboxes, with the sandbox lifecycle uniformly managed by Alibaba Cloud's backend. In terms of storage, each Pod starts with 15GB of free temporary storage, automatically increasing by 30GB each time when usage exceeds 70%, up to a maximum of 300GB. For security, MicroVM-level isolation is adopted by default, covering computing, networking, storage, and permissions, with zero-trust access to cloud products and large model interfaces. The results provided in the article include: a 90% reduction in image startup time, model evaluation cycles compressed from weekly to daily, and an average savings of about 40% on EBS storage costs; relying on ACK One Fleet, it can support the stable operation of hundreds of thousands of sandboxes simultaneously.

Slow Fog Report: Public Code Weaponized, iOS Encrypted Wallets Face Threats

The security organization SlowMist has released an in-depth threat intelligence report on the DarkSword Trojan backend and iOS attack chain. The report tracks the evolution of this attack infrastructure and reveals its high danger to cryptocurrency asset users.According to SlowMist's analysis, after the relevant exploit code was made public in March 2026, DarkSword-PROV2 appeared on GitHub in July, and its attack infrastructure was observed to be operational by late September. The SlowMist team not only tracked its online infrastructure but also correlated its management panel with public GitHub repositories, dissecting the exploit code, delivery chain, and post-compromise capabilities. The report highlighted several key findings of this attack framework: a highly automated complete attack pipeline that integrates vulnerability delivery, device and data collection, data theft, and cryptocurrency wallet fund aggregation functions. The extensive and deep data theft capabilities of this toolkit target not only keychains, files, and information but also specifically cryptocurrency wallet data, with the ability to decrypt wallet data and aggregate funds. Although the toolkit claims to support iOS 13 and above, code analysis confirms that its actual effective exploit window is concentrated in the iOS 18.6--18.7.2 and iOS 26--26.1 version ranges. The publicly available vulnerability components have been weaponized and integrated into a deployable attack framework, significantly lowering the threshold for launching complex iOS attacks. In response to this threat, SlowMist has provided clear security recommendations. Users should keep their iOS systems updated and avoid clicking on untrusted links, as merely opening a malicious page in the Safari browser could trigger vulnerabilities. If a device has accessed suspicious landing pages, users should consider their mnemonic phrases and private keys as compromised and must create new wallets and transfer assets using a clean device that has never accessed that page.Additionally, users should thoroughly check for abnormal transactions and token authorizations across various chains and immediately revoke unnecessary authorizations.

first_img Stan Kladko: has stepped down as CTO of SKALE Labs, proposing the foundation add three seats

Stan Kladko, co-founder of SKALE Labs, announced on X to the SKALE community that he has stepped down from his position as Chief Technology Officer and board member of SKALE Labs, which he co-founded in 2017, but he will continue to serve as a member of the SKALE Foundation board. He expressed the desire to clarify the actions he is requesting from the foundation and believes the community should be involved in the discussion.Stan Kladko stated: SKALE is a protocol that relies on a small team of engineers who are responsible for developing, debugging, and maintaining the network online over the long term. These individuals have the best understanding of the boundaries of what is technically feasible and infeasible, but currently, there are no builders on the foundation's board. He believes that a protocol foundation without builders involved will make decisions on matters such as the roadmap, funding, and network economics, but will lack the necessary people to implement those decisions. He mentioned that successful protocols, from Ethereum to Cosmos, always involve engineers in discussions about long-term direction. The proposal put forward by Stan Kladko is to expand the foundation's board by three seats, to be filled by individuals with a strong background in software and protocol engineering. He stated that this proposal has been formally submitted to the foundation, and updates will be shared as they can be disclosed. He called for those who agree that building SKALE should participate in governance, and validators, delegators, application teams, and token holders can publicly express their stance, stating that he will continue to build SKALE.
