Cryptocurrency investment firm RockawayX announced the acquisition of the crypto hedge fund Relayer Capital to incorporate long-short strategies into its existing platform and expand its business footprint in the United States. RockawayX manages approximately $2 billion in assets, and Relayer will be renamed RockawayX Liquid Opportunities Fund, focusing on uncovering "undervalued liquidity tokens and crypto-related stocks." After the acquisition is completed, Relayer founder Austin Barack will serve as the chief investment officer of the fund, with Forbes citing informed sources that the company plans to raise $150 million for the fund.According to the announcement, Relayer's liquidity strategy has achieved approximately 70% net returns this year, outperforming a weighted basket of Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana by 86% as of August 21. The strategy expresses fundamental views on crypto tokens through long and short positions and pairs trading, while reducing overall market exposure at appropriate times. RockawayX CEO Viktor Fischer stated that now is the "right time" to implement this strategy, as there are crypto companies with real revenue and strong fundamentals emerging in the market, but inefficiencies and mispricing still exist, providing good opportunities for active investors. This transaction occurs amid a recent rebound in the crypto market, with Bitcoin recording its largest weekly dollar gain in history last week, dropping 1.68% to $79,064 in the past 24 hours after briefly reaching a high of around $81,000.

Data: HYPE arbitrage space narrows, funding rates decline as whales withdraw 11 million hedge positions

According to TradingBeats (formerly Hyperinsight) monitoring, the whale starting with 0xf17 began synchronously selling HYPE spot today and buying to close an equivalent amount of perpetual short positions, planning to continue exiting the carry trade positions. This address previously held HYPE spot and contract short positions at a nearly 1:1 ratio, earning positive funding rates by hedging against price fluctuations. Based on a pre-reduction position of approximately 146,800 units, both legs have now been reduced to about 107,900 units, each decreasing by nearly 39,000 units, a reduction of about 26.5%.Currently, two sets of TWAP orders still in execution plan to handle a total of 90,000 HYPE: approximately 33,200 units have been sold on the spot side, with a transaction amount of about 1.8 million USD; approximately 33,100 units have been closed on the contract side, with a transaction amount of about 1.795 million USD. Including previously completed orders, the current round of contract short positions has cumulatively decreased by about 39,000 units, with the current nominal value of spot and short positions each around 5.87 million USD, and the total scale of both legs approximately 11.74 million USD, reduced by about 4.24 million USD compared to before the reduction. As the whale withdraws, the HYPE carry trade yield has also fallen from its high. According to daily statistics: the cumulative funding rate for HYPE dropped from +0.0279% on August 1 to +0.02227% on August 3, a decrease of about 20.2%; in the last 4 hours: the cumulative funding rate also decreased by 19.1% compared to the previous 4 hours. Based on the current short position size, its daily gross funding income has fallen from about 1,638 USD to 1,308 USD. Weekly statistics: from July 28 to August 3, the cumulative rate was about +0.17803%, down 16.9% from the high week of +0.21425% from July 14 to 20. The HYPE funding rate is currently reported at +0.0013%, with an expected annualized yield of about 10.9%.

U.S. debt approaches $40 trillion, investors turn to Bitcoin and gold as a hedge against the depreciation of the dollar

According to CoinDesk, as the U.S. government debt continues to rise, investors are refocusing on scarce assets like Bitcoin and gold, viewing them as tools to hedge against the declining purchasing power of the dollar. Data from the U.S. Treasury shows that as of last Friday, the federal debt has reached a record $39.7 trillion. Market participants point out that U.S. government debt is currently increasing by about $7 billion per day, and in terms of market value, this incremental scale has surpassed most crypto assets. The founder of LondonCryptoClub stated that the rapid growth of U.S. debt is driving the so-called "currency devaluation trade," where investors buy limited-supply assets like gold and Bitcoin to mitigate the long-term devaluation risk of fiat currency. The institution believes that in a "fiscal-dominated" environment, Federal Reserve policy may be influenced by government financing needs, requiring interest rates to remain low while continuously providing liquidity to assist with debt refinancing.Apollo's chief economist Torsten Slok previously warned that the ratio of U.S. debt to GDP has exceeded 120%, leaving limited fiscal stimulus space during future economic recessions. At the same time, the Federal Reserve may find it difficult to cut interest rates significantly as it did in the past, since rate cuts could exacerbate inflation and lower government bond yields, affecting government financing. Currently, Bitcoin prices are maintaining above $65,000, supported by easing tensions between the U.S. and Iran and a drop in oil prices, leading to a rebound in market risk appetite.Meanwhile, Ethereum has recently outperformed Bitcoin, with the ETH/BTC exchange rate breaking through the 100-day and 200-day moving averages, leading the market to believe that altcoin trends may be warming up. However, analysts point out that since its inception in 2010, Bitcoin's price movements have more closely resembled those of tech stocks rather than traditional safe-haven assets, and its safe-haven properties remain controversial.
