first_img Lido Lend plans to launch Fallback Exits to supplement withdrawals with borrower collateral

The lending protocol Lido Lend proposed by contributors will launch a withdrawal mechanism called Fallback Exits. When the market lacks sufficient liquidity of loan assets, lenders can utilize the collateral of borrowers to supplement withdrawal requests, and the corresponding debt of the relevant borrowers will be reduced. The protocol was launched on October 7 as a modified fork of Morpho Blue, built around isolated markets.According to the proposal, the collateral of borrowers will be passively utilized in order of the highest position risk, meaning positions closest to the liquidation loan-to-value ratio (LLTV) will be prioritized, while borrowers with very healthy positions are less likely to be affected. Taking the ETH/wstETH market as an example, lenders provide ETH, and borrowers stake wstETH to borrow ETH; if exiting through collateral, lenders will first be exposed to the staked tokens before receiving ETH. The proposal does not specify the qualification thresholds for healthy loans or the path for lenders to obtain ETH.Contributor Izzy stated in a post on October 16 that technical specifications and market parameters will be announced in the next two weeks, and the governance process and public audit must be completed before the mainnet launch. Details such as settlement valuation, debt offset formulas, fees, and limits have yet to be determined.

first_img Lido engineer warns of Glamsterdam staking deposit hijacking risk

Dmitry Gusakov, the engineering lead of the Ethereum liquid staking protocol Lido, warned at the developer conference ACDC #189 that the one-time builder access mechanism introduced by the Glamsterdam upgrade could interfere with the existing deposit protection logic of the staking protocol, leading to the hijacking of staking deposits. This issue involves multiple deposits sharing the same validator public key.According to Ethereum's current deposit rules, the first valid deposit determines the withdrawal credential, and staking protocols typically leverage this feature to prevent credential manipulation, such as initially depositing a small amount of ETH and then topping up the remaining funds once the expected credential appears. However, the special access mechanism introduced for builders by Glamsterdam may change the interpretation of subsequent pending deposits under the same public key during the fork transition period, putting the staking protocol at risk of a third outcome: the validator does not appear, and the deposited ETH is credited to the builder.Lido's proposed fix is to maintain the distinction between validator deposits and builder deposits during the one-time access process. However, core developers rejected this modification on the grounds of timing, mainly because the Sepolia testnet has already been activated according to existing specifications, and the Hoodi client version is also in preparation. Changing the behavior at this point could require redeploying Sepolia and conducting additional testing. The issue affects the access process during the fork transition period, rather than the ongoing deposit processing rules, but its consequences could impact deposits waiting in the queue.

first_img Lido will directly expand ETH staking to four Layer 2s

Lido announced the integration of direct ETH staking functionality for Arbitrum, Base, Linea, and Optimism Layer 2 networks into its official staking interface, which was announced on October 15. This process is supported by Chainlink's cross-chain interoperability protocol CCIP, allowing users to directly obtain wstETH on the originating network without manually transferring ETH across chains to Ethereum and back.Lido stated that users' ETH will be exchanged for wstETH through dedicated liquidity pools on the same L2, with the Chainlink price feed reflecting the exchange rate of the Lido protocol rather than the exchange market price. The underlying staking still occurs on the Ethereum mainnet: the ETH deposited by users on L2 will automatically be transferred to Ethereum and staked through Lido, after which wstETH will be sent back to replenish the local liquidity pool. Users receive the wrapped version of stETH, wstETH, which maintains a fixed balance while its value reflects staking rewards.This functionality integrates existing cross-chain infrastructure into Lido's own interface. Lido previously introduced relevant channels for Arbitrum, Base, and Optimism in October 2024, with third-party frontends including XSwap, OpenOcean, and Interport, while Linea followed up in October 2025. In terms of fees, users will still need to pay L2 transaction gas, and cross-chain costs come from the separately funded contract balance rather than staker deposits;

first_img MetaMask Staking exits Lido validator due to infrastructure investigation

The liquidity staking protocol Lido announced that MetaMask Staking (formerly Consensys Staking) has taken precautionary measures to protect customer assets related to its Ethereum validators after investigating an infrastructure breach incident. The related measures include withdrawing its Ethereum validators from the Lido protocol, which may result in some loss of rewards. If the validators go offline recently to reduce potential network slashing risks, it may also incur downtime penalties.Lido stated that the related validators have begun to withdraw, with the last batch expected to complete the withdrawal by October 7, 2026, but full withdrawals may not be completed by then. stETH holders do not need to take any action. The ETH withdrawn from the validators operated by MetaMask Staking is expected to gradually return to the protocol during the cycle of the validators completing the withdrawal, withdrawing, and re-entering, with the estimated maximum duration of this process being about 45 days due to extended queuing times.Lido reminds that staking operations are non-custodial, and MetaMask does not manage withdrawal keys on behalf of customers. The diversified node operators of the Lido protocol and other security mechanisms, including a temporary reserve of over 6,750 stETH, are designed to control and mitigate disruptions to the normal operation of the protocol. A comprehensive investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be announced separately.
