CertiK: The losses from wrench attacks have surged nearly 12 times, making operational security the new core of prevention

Web3 security company CertiK released the "2026 First Half Wrench Attack Report." The report shows that in the first half of 2026, a total of 52 publicly verified wrench attack incidents were recorded globally, an increase of 33.3% year-on-year; related losses amounted to approximately $124 million, an increase of about 11.8 times compared to the same period last year.The report points out that attackers are shifting from exploiting technical vulnerabilities to targeting asset holders and their real-world relationship networks, with home invasion incidents rising from 1 in the first half of 2025 to 20, accounting for 41% of the total incidents during the same period. Europe has become a high-frequency attack region, with 33 incidents occurring in France, accounting for 63.5% of global cases.CertiK states that as real-world risks become a significant challenge for digital asset security, businesses and high-value individuals need to establish a more comprehensive protection system. CertiK has launched operational security services to help identify risks related to the exposure of information such as identity, home, residence, and travel trajectory; at the same time, through CertiK Security Workspace, it correlates off-chain intelligence, on-chain transactions, and AML risk signals to support institutions in tracking and analyzing cybercrime activities.In addition, CertiK is strengthening cooperation with international law enforcement agencies such as Interpol and Europol to provide technical support for cross-border attack investigations and security policy research.

TSMC's net profit in the second quarter surged by 77.4%, exceeding expectations, with the 2-nanometer process contributing to revenue for the first time

Global chip foundry giant TSMC announced its financial report for the second quarter of 2026. Benefiting from the strong demand for advanced process chips driven by global AI infrastructure development, TSMC's performance this quarter significantly exceeded market expectations. During the period, it achieved revenue of NT$1.27 trillion (approximately US$40.2 billion), a year-on-year increase of 36%; net profit reached NT$706.6 billion (approximately US$22 billion), a year-on-year surge of 77.4%, far exceeding the market's previous estimate of NT$623.7 billion. In addition, the company's gross margin for the quarter reached 67.7%, and the operating margin was 60.3%, both better than expected.In terms of process structure, advanced processes (7 nanometers and below) contributed a total of 77% to the total wafer revenue this quarter. Among them, the 3-nanometer and 5-nanometer processes accounted for 30% and 33%, respectively, while the 7-nanometer process accounted for 11%. Notably, TSMC's newly shipped 2-nanometer advanced process recorded revenue for the first time, accounting for 3%.Looking ahead, TSMC confirmed that its capital expenditure for 2026 will approach a record US$56 billion and plans to invest approximately US$26.5 billion in its advanced manufacturing park in Arizona, USA. TSMC CEO C.C. Wei stated that the current pace of capacity expansion still lags behind demand, and the situation of supply not meeting demand is expected to continue for several years. Meanwhile, despite TSMC's strong performance, the market remains somewhat cautious and concerned about whether the massive AI investments by tech giants can translate into actual returns and the medium- to long-term competitive landscape.

The cross-chain interoperability platform Relay Protocol has issued a warning, stating that since the launch of the Ethereum Layer 2 network Robinhood Chain based on Arbitrum on July 1, a large number of honeypot scam tokens have emerged. After users purchase these tokens, they automatically disappear from their wallets, and the funds cannot be recovered. Relay Protocol clarified that this is not due to a breach of wallet infrastructure; users' private keys and other assets remain secure, and the malicious logic exists only within the scam token contracts themselves.The typical operation of honeypot tokens allows users to buy in but prevents selling through hard-coded rules, or automatically transfers funds to the attacker's wallet. Some users have reported that a certain token contract uses hidden storage mappings to bypass standard ERC-20 security checks to steal assets.Relay Protocol stated that it is blocking discovered scam tokens and verifying safe tokens, advising users to only trade tokens verified by trusted sources, to verify contract addresses before trading, and to test with small amounts of funds first. The platform pointed out that attracting scammers in the early stages of a new chain launch is not an issue unique to Robinhood Chain; similar situations have occurred with other L1 and L2 chains upon their launch.
