first_img Chainalysis: Canada’s cryptocurrency remittances to three Asian countries surged by 141% to 2.36 billion USD

According to a report by Cointelegraph, a recent report from Chainalysis indicates that remittances from Canada to India, China, and the Philippines have surged by 141% year-on-year, reaching $2.36 billion, with digital asset payments continuing to expand in these three major remittance corridors. In the 12 months ending June 2026, there were a total of 3.56 million related transactions, with an average amount of $663 per transaction. Chainalysis noted that these three countries accounted for an increase in the proportion of Canada's cross-border stablecoin outflows from 10.9% the previous year to 19.4%.Eric Jardine, research director at Chainalysis, cited additional data provided to Cointelegraph, stating that crypto remittances from Canada to the Philippines alone reached $61.02 million, involving 73,564 transactions, representing year-on-year growth of 28% and 34.7%, respectively. The analysis counted Bitcoin and stablecoins that circulated between personal wallets with amounts exceeding $10,000. Chainalysis listed Canada as the largest peer-to-peer (P2P) crypto economy among the G7 countries and believes that the large overseas-born population and the high costs of traditional remittance services are potential driving factors for its increasing adoption.Morva Rohani, executive director of the Canadian Web3 Council, stated in the report that about 23% of Canada's population is born overseas, the highest proportion among the G7, with frequent use of remittance corridors to India, the Philippines, Nigeria, Pakistan, and China. The report also found that in June, stablecoins accounted for 44% of the Canadian dollar-denominated order book trading volume, up from 30% a year ago.

first_img Self-proclaimed "Godfather" Adam Iza was sentenced to 78 months for fraud against Meta and hiring police officers

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of California stated that a 26-year-old man, Adam Iza, who calls himself the "Godfather," has been sentenced to 78 months in prison and must pay $23.4 million in restitution. He pleaded guilty in January 2025 to charges of conspiracy to violate rights, wire fraud, and tax evasion, and has been in custody since September 2024. This sentence will run concurrently with the 15-year sentence he received last month for an attempted Bitcoin robbery, which will not increase his actual time served. From August 2021 to April 2022, Iza hired off-duty Los Angeles County police officers as private security and admitted to conspiring with them to obtain law enforcement confidential records and personal data of individuals he had disputes with, obtaining court-authorized search warrants to track these individuals, and having the officers intimidate and threaten them. The Department of Justice stated that five former officers have been convicted for working for him, including 42-year-old Eric Chase Saavedra, who set up a security company providing these officers, and was sentenced to 21 months; 45-year-old Michael David Coberg, who assisted in extorting rivals and arranged false drug arrests, is serving a 63-month sentence. The prosecution wrote in the sentencing memorandum that wealthy individuals cannot buy "search warrants, arrests, badges, or guns" for private disputes. In another fraud case, since December 2020, Iza gained access to a Meta Business Manager account and its associated credit line, reselling it to advertising companies, with Meta clients being charged for ads they never purchased. After discovering this, Meta refunded the clients and absorbed the losses.

According to CoinDesk, Armada Acquisition Corp. II (XRPN) closed at $39.42 last Friday, up 68% on the day, and has risen approximately 273% over the week, reaching a high of $53 during intraday trading, compared to $10.58 a week ago, with a further pre-market increase of 9.5% on Monday. The company is the SPAC driving the listing of XRP treasury company Evernorth, which stated that the merger is expected to be completed on October 7 (Wednesday), pending the fulfillment of remaining conditions.Evernorth is expected to hold approximately 473 million XRP at the time of closing, valued at about $714 million based on Monday's price of approximately $1.51. Its disclosed financing includes about $300 million in total cash proceeds, of which $225 million comes from a private placement, $30 million from convertible notes, and $48 million from Armada's trust funds, with supporters also directly investing in XRP. However, the company purchased 84.4 million XRP for $214.1 million by the end of 2025, at an average price of approximately $2.54, which is now worth about $127 million.Armada Trust held $241.2 million at the end of June, with each public share redemption valued at approximately $10.49. Evernorth's announcement on October 1 indicated that about $48 million of the trust funds would be reserved for trading, suggesting that approximately 80% of the trust funds would be returned to shareholders. Redemptions will reduce the number of publicly tradable shares, allowing relatively small orders to significantly drive up the stock price.

first_img Senator Daines introduced the ADAPT Act, which exempts stablecoin payments from capital gains tax and introduces wash sale rules

U.S. Senator Steve Daines (Republican from Montana, member of the Senate Finance Committee) has officially introduced a 56-page digital asset tax bill, named the "Aligning Digital Assets with Tax Principles Act" (ADAPT Act). The bill aims to establish clearer tax rules for scenarios such as stablecoin payments, network fees, staking, and lending, and plans to extend existing tax rules like wash sales and constructive sales to apply to digital assets. The core provisions of the bill state that taxpayers generally do not need to recognize gains or losses when using compliant U.S. dollar stablecoins to purchase goods and services, while exempting brokers from information reporting obligations for qualifying consumer transactions; however, this exemption does not apply to traders and market makers. The bill also extends wash sale rules and constructive sale rules to digital assets, with compliant stablecoins excluded from the constructive sale provisions to limit loss harvesting behavior in crypto assets.Additionally, the bill proposes to exempt digital assets used to pay for network, transaction, or gas fees of $10 or less from gain or loss recognition and allows qualifying digital asset traders and dealers to choose to account for them at fair market value. The bill also stipulates rules for income sources from staking and mining, a non-recognition framework for digital asset lending, a safe harbor for foreign investors' transactions, and definitions for digital asset classifications; most provisions will apply to tax years or transactions after December 31, 2026. Previously, the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee passed its own "Digital Asset Tax Certainty Act" on September 16 by a vote of 38 to 5.

first_img CFTC investigates Adam Kinzinger betting on his own pardon at Kalshi

According to Politico, citing three informed sources, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is investigating former Illinois Republican Congressman Adam Kinzinger, related to his trading on the prediction market platform Kalshi. The relevant trades occurred between December 2024 and January 2025, completed through a Kalshi account associated with Kinzinger. He confirmed to the media that he had placed bets on contracts regarding whether he would receive a presidential pardon, while also betting on another contract about whether Biden would issue preemptive pardons before leaving office. In the final moments before Biden left office in January 2025, he issued preemptive pardons to Kinzinger and other members of the House Select Committee investigating the Capitol riot. Screenshots provided by Kinzinger show that he made a profit of $823 from approximately 25 trades, most of which were losses. He denied any wrongdoing, stating that he had been out of office for two years at the time of the bets, was neither a congressman nor a candidate, and had "no insider information." He also stated that he had read Kalshi's rules in advance and understood that they prohibit users from trading contracts directly related to their own interests. Kalshi prohibits users from betting on contracts in which they are direct participants, and the CFTC also prohibits the use of significant non-public information in its regulated markets.Kalshi had previously handled similar cases, suspending three congressional candidates in April for betting on their own campaigns, and freezing former Congressman George Santos's account, which was referred to the CFTC and the Department of Justice, leading to a lifetime ban at the end of August.
