first_img Heatbit launched the $899 Bitwater component, heating water while mining Bitcoin

Heatbit, which previously launched a heater with a built-in Bitcoin mining machine, has announced the release of a heating element for water heaters named Bitwater. This element replaces the resistance wire in standard electric water heater elements with 20 Bitcoin mining chips, using the heat generated by the chips to directly heat the water in the tank. Heatbit stated that this electricity was originally intended for heating water, "the same heat, the same electricity, plus Bitcoin." The company claims that global households use approximately 300 TWh of electricity annually for heating water, which exceeds the entire Bitcoin network's consumption of about 170 TWh, advocating for the decentralization of mining to households.Bitwater uses 20 Bitmain BM1370 chips, with a maximum hash rate of 34 TH/s, a maximum power consumption of 600 watts, and an energy efficiency of 12 joules/TH. Due to water cooling, this element requires no fans and produces no noise. The installation process is DIY: turn off the circuit breaker, drain the tank, unscrew the old element, and then screw in the Bitwater using the included wrench. It is compatible with the one-inch standard interface of 30 to 80-gallon electric water heaters commonly found in the United States and Canada, including brands such as A. O. Smith, Rheem, Bradford White, Whirlpool, and GE, without the need for plumbing modifications or additional circuits.Users can check water temperature, hash rate, and earnings through an app, and choose to mine individually or join a mining pool, with mined Bitcoin sent to an address controlled by the user. The initial "genesis batch" pre-order price is $899, with subsequent batches priced up to $1,299, and pre-orders are refundable, with plans to ship in the first quarter of 2027. Heatbit claims to have tested the entire winter in four and five-person households in New York and Florida. Based on the current hash price of approximately $36.73/PH/s/day, the full load of 34 TH/s could mine Bitcoin worth about $1.25 per day, totaling approximately $455 annually.

first_img Doubao adds life payment services, allowing users to initiate payments for water, electricity, and gas

According to the WeChat public account "Du Jia," ByteDance's AI assistant Doubao has added a utility payment feature. Users can initiate payment instructions for water, electricity, gas, and other services through voice or text in the Doubao app, with other life service scenarios also in development. Sources close to Doubao told "Du Jia" that Doubao is gradually building capabilities for handling tasks in life scenarios, including travel services and utility payments."Du Jia" claims to have tested that after issuing commands for paying electricity and water bills in the dialogue box, corresponding service cards pop up and redirect to the utility payment page. The interface is divided into electricity, water, and gas fees, with some regions showing that services are not yet available, while some cities have fully or partially opened them. The relevant framework has been established, and city coverage and service provider integration are still in progress, with actual payments requiring further permission to be granted.Currently, the dialogue only serves to invoke services; steps such as binding account numbers, confirmation, and payment will still be retained, and users will not be charged directly with a single command. Alibaba's Tongyi Qianwen integrated utility payments earlier and can complete payments within the dialogue; Doubao at this stage redirects to handle tasks after invoking the card, and capabilities like food delivery have not yet been launched. The above content comes from "Du Jia" reports and tests, not an official announcement from Doubao.

Japan National Police Agency: North Korea's cyber attack organization WaterPlum launched a large-scale attack targeting IT technicians

According to a joint alert issued by the Japanese National Police Agency, FBI, ASD/ACSC, BND, and BfV, the North Korean-backed cyber attack organization "WaterPlum" (also known as Contagious Interview) targets job seekers by disguising itself as an AI, cryptocurrency, and NFT company to post fake job listings. This lures job seekers into downloading NPM packages containing malware such as BeaverTail, InvisibleFerret, and OtterCookie, which then steal cryptocurrency wallet information and confidential data.As of July 2026, the organization has infected over 30,000 devices in more than 100 countries and regions worldwide, stealing information from over 7,000 cryptocurrency wallets, with the wallets under its control receiving at least approximately 1.7 billion yen (about 10.71 million USD) in cryptocurrency. The Japanese National Police Agency has discovered and dismantled a "notebook farm" established by local "supporters" for the first time in the country, where North Korean IT laborers remotely control PCs within the supporters' residences to conduct business, with the related amount involved reaching several hundred million yen.The police and FBI assess that WaterPlum and some North Korean IT laborers are under the unified command of the 313 Bureau of the Ministry of Military Industry of the Workers' Party of Korea, with the profits directly flowing into North Korea's national funding pool. The police remind IT technicians and corporate issuers to remain vigilant and avoid executing third-party code in unverified environments.
