first_img South Korea arrests 4 Uzbeks for transferring USDT to a terrorist organization in Syria

On April, the Gwangju Police Agency's Security Investigation Department in South Korea arrested four Uzbek suspects under the "Act on Prohibition of Financing Terrorism" and disclosed the case to the public on Tuesday. One of them is listed in a red notice by Interpol. The police stated that this is the first case involving cryptocurrency flowing out from a recognized terrorist organization and then returning as physical goods for funding.According to the police investigation, from August 2024 to April 2025, the alleged mastermind transferred 4,267 USDT to the Syrian terrorist organization "Katibat Tawhid wal Jihad" (KTJ) in seven transactions. KTJ was established in 2014, mainly composed of Central Asian militants, and has been designated as a terrorist organization by the United Nations and the United States. Additionally, the mastermind is also accused of receiving cryptocurrency from KTJ to purchase 11 used cars and 2 excavators, with a total value of approximately 170 million Korean won (about 121,000 USD), which were then transported to Syria. The other three suspects are alleged to have assisted in the purchase and export of these vehicles. The police stated that previous terrorism-related cases mostly involved remittances to terrorist organizations, while this case is the first to involve receiving funds from a terrorist organization and reverse procurement and supply of vehicles. The investigation revealed that the mastermind rotated operations among three personal wallets, with the vehicle purchase funds deposited into an account under his spouse's name, and he presented someone else's driver's license at the time of arrest. He entered South Korea in 2017 on a student visa, graduated from a university in Daejeon, and has been illegally staying since 2023. He denied the main charges during his first court hearing in June, claiming that the remittances were for family living expenses and that he did not know the identity of the vehicle purchasers. The police stated that the investigation also led to the capture of a second suspect listed in a red notice, and the case is still ongoing.

first_img Kalshi permanently banned former Congressman George Santos for manipulating the attendance prediction market for the State of the Union address

The prediction market platform Kalshi has permanently banned former U.S. Congressman George Santos and fined him $71,356 for manipulating a market related to his attendance at the State of the Union address, profiting nearly $18,000. This is the first time the exchange has imposed a lifetime ban on a former member of Congress.According to a disciplinary notice issued by Kalshi's compliance department on August 28, Santos conducted multiple large transactions in this market between February 2 and 25. Since he was able to influence the outcome, exchange rules prohibited him from participating in trading. He subsequently issued a series of public statements regarding his attendance, some of which were false or misleading, intending to drive price movements in the "Yes" and "No" contracts. The compliance department determined that these statements did indeed manipulate prices, allowing him to profit $17,839.57 in the relevant market, violating multiple rules regarding market manipulation, influencing trading outcomes, and using deceptive practices, and he faced additional penalties for failing to cooperate with the investigation. The prediction market allows users to bet on the outcomes of real-world events such as elections, sports, and economic data by purchasing "Yes" or "No" contracts. As event contracts have become mainstream, Kalshi and its crypto-native competitor Polymarket have seen a surge in trading volume over the past year, attracting significant institutional interest.

first_img Nvidia suspends part of its revenue-sharing financing arrangements with AI cloud companies

According to the Wall Street Journal, Nvidia has suspended some transactions in its new financing plan. This plan aims to provide credit support to AI cloud companies in exchange for revenue sharing. Insiders say that the chip giant withdrew from the related arrangements last week but may adjust the plan in the future or incorporate it into other projects.A Nvidia spokesperson stated that the new business model aimed at the rapidly growing AI ecosystem and open computing power access is still progressing and continues to evolve due to strong demand. The plan was announced less than two months ago, intending to support the financing needs of small AI cloud companies: if customers cannot sell computing power, Nvidia can lease back the relevant computing power, acting as a guarantee buyer, thereby facilitating companies in raising funds to purchase Nvidia AI chips; Nvidia would then share cloud revenue generated by customers based on its chips, in addition to hardware sales.Nvidia stated in this week's earnings call that this model is expected to contribute billions of dollars in revenue in the medium to long term. However, recent investor scrutiny regarding its capital flow back to the AI ecosystem has increased, raising concerns that so-called circular transactions may inflate demand. Reports indicate that some employees had expressed antitrust concerns to customers; in the early stages of the plan, Nvidia also faced dissatisfaction from some potential partners due to attempts to limit chip rental targets, preferring to distribute to multiple small customers rather than a single large customer, and requiring a 50% revenue share after reaching a certain threshold.

first_img The nonprofit organization claims that Trump's cryptocurrency project caused investors a loss of $4.7 billion

Consumer rights organization Public Citizen released a report stating that U.S. President Trump and his family's cryptocurrency projects have resulted in investor losses of at least $4.7 billion since 2022. Most of the losses stem from the TRUMP meme coin issued by Trump, with investors losing about $3.2 billion, while buyers of World Liberty Financial's USD1 stablecoin "have not suffered significant losses."The report noted that Trump profited $7.2 million from NFT royalties, over $600 million from the sale of World Liberty tokens and equity, $635 million from meme coin royalties, and $197 million in revenue from investing in World Liberty. These figures do not include the company and project shares he continues to hold, and some data is included in the President's 2025 disclosure documents, showing his cryptocurrency-related income reached $1.4 billion.Public Citizen once again called for the inclusion of ethical provisions in the Digital Asset Market Clarification Act (CLARITY Act), requiring the U.S. President and his family to divest from industry-related projects. The bill is scheduled for a final vote on September 15 and requires support from at least 60 senators to advance. White House spokesperson Anna Kelly previously responded that Trump's cryptocurrency investments "do not present a conflict of interest."

Zhao Changpeng: It is difficult to predict the outbreak point of the next cycle, and we do not rule out large AI companies issuing tokens

Zhao Changpeng stated at the "Bitcoin Asia 2026" conference in Hong Kong that both the RWA and AI sectors are currently very strong. Stablecoins, centralized exchanges, decentralized exchanges, and Meme tokens, which have been growing, will continue to grow, and NFTs may return in some form. It is difficult to predict what the next breakout point will be, just as it was impossible to predict the coin issuance craze at the beginning of 2017 and the NFT craze six months before it exploded; these all require entrepreneurs to create. He also mentioned that the funds used by billions of AI agents for automated buying, selling, negotiating, and trading in the future will definitely be cryptocurrencies, likely starting with stablecoins, and then gradually integrating other public chain assets like Bitcoin. He has discussed the possibility of issuing tokens with several top AI companies, as building data centers requires huge amounts of capital, with the cost of 1 GW of computing power being about $30 billion to $50 billion. Some AI companies plan to build hundreds of GW of computing power in the coming years, so they are considering issuing data center tokens that would allow holders to gain rights to use computing power in the future. Additionally, the payment scenarios for AI agents may be implemented later than trading scenarios; currently, AI companies are more focused on helping agents find optimal trading solutions, while trading scenarios require AI to process information quickly, which can increase trading efficiency by about ten times.
