first_img Bitget: A small amount of hot wallets were unauthorizedly transferred, involving 351.6 million USD; the vast majority of the platform's assets are safe, and the protection fund can cover the losses

The cryptocurrency trading platform Bitget announced on its official X account that on September 24, 2026, at 18:31 (UTC), its security system detected unauthorized transfers from a small number of hot wallets. The security team has immediately initiated an emergency response procedure and started a comprehensive investigation.Bitget stated that, based on current assessments, approximately $351.6 million in assets are affected. Cold wallets and the vast majority of assets on the platform remain secure and unaffected, and user funds are still protected. The incident falls within the coverage of the user protection fund, which currently holds over $464 million.Bitget mentioned that customer account balances remain accurate, and deposits and transactions continue to operate normally. As a precautionary measure, withdrawals have been temporarily suspended to allow the team to complete a thorough security review. The company has identified and flagged the relevant transfer addresses, formally contacted law enforcement agencies and on-chain security partners, and will restore withdrawals as soon as safety is confirmed, providing subsequent updates through official channels while refraining from speculating on the attack path during the investigation.

PaymentsJournal Highlights Latin America’s Fragmented Payments Landscape, Citing PhotonPay Research

Payments industry publication PaymentsJournal has published a deep-dive article, Navigating Latin America’s Complex Payment Ecosystem, examining the region’s evolving payments landscape, including domestic payment rails, cross-border settlement, stablecoins and payment orchestration. The article draws on PhotonPay’s research report, The Next Payment Infrastructure in LATAM, as a reference for its analysis. The article highlights the highly fragmented nature of Latin America’s payments market, where countries such as Brazil, Argentina and Mexico have developed distinct payment systems, currencies, providers and regulatory frameworks. At the same time, stablecoins are gaining traction in cross-border payments, offering an additional layer for liquidity and settlement, while local payment rails remain essential for reaching businesses and consumers in individual markets. PaymentsJournal argues that the next phase of payment infrastructure in Latin America may not be about creating a single regional rail, but about connecting diverse local payment systems, currencies and global liquidity through a more unified infrastructure layer. In this model, stablecoins can facilitate cross-border movement and settlement of value, while payment orchestration connects and manages the local rails, providers and fund flows businesses need to navigate. PhotonPay’s research explores these infrastructure trends and the changing dynamics of payments across the region.

The Sandbox: Compensation will be carried out based on the on-chain snapshot before the attack, and the compensation application process is expected to open within two weeks

The Sandbox released an update on the security vulnerability attack incident involving the SAND cross-chain bridge, stating that the attacker modified the verification mechanism to forge cross-chain deposit messages and mint unbacked SAND. This incident resulted in approximately 14.7423 million SAND being withdrawn, valued at about $697,000. Additionally, some uncollateralized SAND was profited through market trading, leading to an overall economic impact of approximately $1.497 million, of which the attacker actually obtained about $987,000.The Sandbox stated that the attack did not affect the supply of SAND on Ethereum and Polygon, with the total amount of SAND on Ethereum remaining unchanged at 3 billion. There were also no super administrator privileges stolen, and the attack stemmed from a vulnerability caused by the combination of the general call function in the token contract and the design of bridge permissions. Currently, the related addresses have been marked, and collaboration has begun with exchanges, security agencies, and the LayerZero team. For affected users, The Sandbox promises to compensate wallets holding legitimate bridged SAND with a 1:1 ratio of SAND on the Ethereum chain based on an on-chain snapshot taken before the attack. The compensation application process is expected to open within two weeks and will last for two weeks.
