Grayscale Research Director Zach Pandl stated that the global alternative asset market has grown nearly 7 times since the 2008 financial crisis, with the share of private equity, private credit, hedge funds, physical assets, and cryptocurrency in global portfolios continuing to rise. According to the data he cited, within alternative assets, private equity accounts for about 29%, hedge funds about 23%, and cryptocurrency about 13%.Zach Pandl mentioned that differences in intergenerational allocation preferences may further strengthen this trend. According to a Bank of America survey of high-net-worth individuals, investors aged 21 to 43 allocate about 53% of their assets outside of traditional stocks and bonds, while the proportion for those aged 44 and above is 26%. With over $100 trillion in wealth expected to transfer to younger generations in the coming years, their stronger preference for alternative assets may provide ongoing tailwinds for cryptocurrency.He added that the lowering of entry barriers to alternative assets is one of the reasons for this shift, with cryptocurrency developing along similar paths; regulated products like Bitcoin ETPs and institutional-grade market infrastructure provide more convenient access to exposure.

On July 29, the U.S. Department of Commerce signed letters of intent with seven companies, totaling up to $874 million, to support seven "post-GPU era" underlying technology routes such as CPO, ferroelectric memory, and 3D packaging in the form of equity investments. This marks a shift in the U.S. chip strategy from "capacity reshoring" to "technology route selection."The seven companies and their technology directions include: GlobalFoundries (CPO silicon photonic integration, $300 million), Kepler Computing (ferroelectric 3D memory, $245 million), Multibeam (multi-electron beam direct-write lithography and advanced packaging, $140 million), Extropic (thermodynamic sampling unit TSU, $75 million), Thintronics (ultra-low loss dielectric materials, $50 million), Aeluma (large-size phosphorus-free optoelectronic device substrates, $30 million), and OBSIDIA (hardware zero-trust chip anti-counterfeiting, $34 million). All companies are required to provide non-controlling minority equity to the U.S. government.This move shows that the funding usage of the CHIPS Act is shifting from subsidizing wafer fabs to directly holding equity in cutting-edge technology companies with national capital, in order to secure rule-making authority in the post-Moore era.

Micron Technology stated to Deutsche Bank at the FMS 2026 conference that AI is reshaping the memory industry landscape, with the proportion of memory in the total value of systems rising from about 10% thirty years ago to nearly 50% currently, and this trend is accelerating. Currently, both DRAM and NAND are in a state of supply shortage. Due to the need for physical disassembly of systems for memory upgrades, the demand for memory in AI systems is more rigid, and price elasticity is lower than market expectations. The Strategic Customer Agreement (SCA) is expected to cover about 40% of sales, providing a price stability mechanism for both parties.Micron's management described the demand for CPU-side AI Agents as "pre-season warm-up," viewing it as a new pillar of growth outside the GPU ecosystem. For emerging technologies like SRAM, Micron believes their scalability is limited and cannot challenge the core position of HBM, with only about 5% of systems currently running such specific workloads. Deutsche Bank maintains a "Buy" rating, believing Micron has a unique advantage of "growth without sacrificing profits." During FMS, Sandisk and SK Hynix jointly released the first HBF technical specifications, but Micron believes that its actual value and commercialization prospects remain controversial.
