Ledger wallet causes some Cardano users to be unable to claim the Glacier airdrop due to software limitations
ChainCatcher news, according to Decrypt, the Ledger hardware wallet has software limitations that prevent some Cardano users from participating in the Midnight Foundation's two-month "Glacier Drop" event, which distributes NIGHT tokens across eight blockchain ecosystems. The reason is that Ledger's implementation of the CIP - 8 protocol restricts messages to 31 bytes, while the airdrop message is 251 bytes, and the current firmware cannot support it. Cardano co-founder Charles Hoskinson stated that this is a Cardano-specific issue in Ledger's software, which was reported back in July, but Ledger has not provided an update on when it will be fixed. Fahmi Syed, chairman of the Midnight Foundation, confirmed this, stating that they are in communication with Ledger, and that XRP and Avalanche are experiencing similar issues, with a solution expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks.Although Ledger has not released a fix, Cardano developers are rolling out a workaround. According to Hoskinson, the system will use an empty transaction containing the "Glacier Drop" payload as metadata instead of a traditional message signature. This workaround will be integrated into the "Glacier Drop" protocol to allow affected users to claim their tokens.
