first_img Metaplanet CEO responds to equity incentive doubts, shareholders say key issues remain unresolved

The CEO of Bitcoin Reserve Company Metaplanet, Simon Gerovich, posted on the X platform in response to the controversy surrounding the company's equity incentive plan and MMXX Ventures. Gerovich admitted that the company "failed to adequately explain" the incentive arrangement known as "Series 10 Stock Options" and stated that he is a "significant but non-controlling shareholder" of MMXX's parent company, not involved in its trading decisions. The controversy stems from a stock rights plan established in December 2022, with a reward pool set at 20% of Metaplanet's fully diluted equity. After shifting to a Bitcoin reserve strategy in April 2024, the company dilutes existing shareholders with each new share issuance, while Gerovich's option rights increase accordingly. On August 18, the board canceled the floating adjustment mechanism, fixing the Series 10 pool at 319 million shares and setting a five-year lock-up period, but did not restore the reward pool to the level it was at when the Bitcoin strategy was initiated. On August 28, Gerovich exercised 92,000 Series 10 options, acquiring 64 million new shares, and currently holds about 6.2% of the company; he and MMXX together hold over 27% of the fully diluted equity.Shareholders expressed dissatisfaction. A shareholder using the pseudonym The Bitcoin Pharaoh stated on X that the adjustments in August were "a step in the right direction," but demanded that Gerovich address the issues that have arisen, disclose the owners of MMXX, and restore the reward pool to the level it was at when the Bitcoin strategy was initiated.

Data: Over the weekend, the capital flow of mainstream public chains showed divergence, with BNB Chain experiencing net inflow and Robinhood Chain currently facing capital outflow

According to on-chain data from DeFiLlama, there was a significant divergence in the capital flow of mainstream public chains over the weekend. BNB Chain saw a net inflow of approximately 28.22 million USD in the last 24 hours, indicating that funds are still continuously gathering in the BSC ecosystem; in contrast, Robinhood Chain experienced a net outflow of about 18.04 million USD in the last 24 hours. Earlier data from September 5 showed that Robinhood Chain had a net outflow of approximately 21.07 million USD in a single day, making it the network with the largest capital outflow among major public chains that day.In terms of capital activity, although Robinhood Chain experienced a net outflow, on-chain trading activity remained relatively high. DeFiLlama data shows that its DEX trading volume in the past 7 days was approximately 10.424 billion USD, an increase of 95.26% compared to the previous week, with a DEX trading volume of about 1.368 billion USD in the last 24 hours; BNB Chain's DEX trading volume in the past 7 days was approximately 8.254 billion USD, a weekly increase of 20.99%, with a net inflow of about 28.22 million USD in the last 24 hours.Meanwhile, data from September 6 indicated that Solana's DEX trading volume in the past 24 hours was approximately 1.96 billion USD, surpassing BNB Chain's 1.64 billion USD and Robinhood Chain's 1.61 billion USD, reclaiming the top spot in DEX trading volume among mainstream public chains. Overall, the past weekend showed characteristics of "high trading activity maintained, with a rebalancing of capital flow" among mainstream public chains: BNB Chain continued to absorb funds against a backdrop of high trading volume, while Robinhood Chain, despite rapid growth in DEX trading volume, experienced continuous net outflows, suggesting that some funds may be leaving the network after high-frequency trading.

first_img ASUS and GIGABYTE have raised the prices of graphics cards in mainland China, with increases of up to 500 yuan

ASUS and Gigabyte, among other graphics card manufacturers, plan to raise product prices in the mainland Chinese market again in September, by up to 500 yuan (approximately 2,300 New Taiwan dollars). The price increase effect will also boost the performance of ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, Leadtek, and Chengqi.According to reports from mainland Chinese media IT Home, ASUS will raise the net cost price of the NVIDIA RTX 5070 series by 150 to 300 yuan in September, while prices for other series models will remain unchanged. Gigabyte will increase the price of all models in the NVIDIA RTX 5060TI 16G series by 200 yuan in September, while other models will remain the same. AMD's RX 9070 XT series will increase by 200 yuan; the RX 9060 XT 16G/8G series will increase by 200 to 250 yuan; and the RX 7650 GRE series will increase by 400 yuan. The main reason for the price increase is the shortage of memory, and production capacity has also shifted towards manufacturing AI computing power GPUs. NVIDIA has again lowered the overall shipment volume of consumer GPUs by 15% to 20% for the third quarter, and the estimated supply for various brands in September is similar to that in August, with supply still tight. The high-end models such as the NVIDIA RTX 5080 and 5070 TI remain among the most out-of-stock models. This year, NVIDIA has raised graphics card prices multiple times, and September marks another increase.

first_img SK Hynix accelerates the expansion of its 1c DRAM market share, becoming the main force by early next year

According to the Chosun Ilbo report on September 7, SK Hynix is accelerating the increase of the production share of 10-nanometer sixth-generation (1c) DRAM. Industry data shows that its 1c DRAM share rose from about 10% in the first quarter of this year to about 13% in the second quarter, and is expected to reach about 24% in the third quarter and about 34% in the fourth quarter; it may rise to about 35% in the first quarter of next year, surpassing 1b (about 33%) for the first time and becoming the main process. The share of 1b (10-nanometer fifth-generation) DRAM peaked at about 43% in the second quarter of this year and has since begun to decline.By the end of the second quarter, Samsung Electronics had a 1c share of about 16% and Micron about 19%, both higher than SK Hynix's approximately 13%. Reports indicate that SK Hynix is accelerating the transition in the second half of the year, and in the fourth quarter, it may exceed Samsung Electronics' approximately 31% with about 34%. SK Hynix stated in its second-quarter earnings call that the supply of DRAM using the 1c process will substantially begin from the second quarter, and in the second half of the year, with the ramp-up of HBM4 and increased shipments of 1c general DRAM, the bit growth rate will be higher than in the first half.Samsung Electronics will use 1c DRAM starting with HBM4, with a running speed of about 11.7Gbps; SK Hynix previously prioritized ensuring mass production stability with verified 1b DRAM and advanced MR-MUF packaging, and will use 1c DRAM for the first time as the core chip for HBM starting with the next generation HBM4E. Counterpoint Research and others estimate that this year, the market share of HBM4 under the combined metrics of Nvidia, Google, and AMD is approximately 50% for SK Hynix in the mid-range, 20% for Samsung Electronics in the later range, and 10% for Micron in the later range.

Harmony plans to shut down the mainnet and migrate ONE to Ethereum, shifting towards AI video remixing business

Harmony has released two proposals to comprehensively shut down the mainnet launched in 2019, migrate the native token ONE to Ethereum, and shift towards an AI video "mashup economy" business. The team stated that the threats posed by national-level attackers and AI entities are the reasons for proposing the network shutdown plan. The migration plan proposes to take a snapshot of user wallets, staking delegations, validator rewards, smart contracts, and tokens within centralized exchanges at the last block of the network, airdropping new ONE to the same wallet addresses on Ethereum, with holders not needing to actively claim; delegated stakes and unclaimed rewards will be airdropped to their respective governance vaults. The total supply of ONE and the issuance rate will remain unchanged, with newly issued tokens intended for the new business and feedback from governors being considered.Multi-signature wallets, liquidity pools, and on-chain applications cannot be migrated. The team urges users to exit all smart contracts by September 10, 2026, and plans to publicly disclose token contracts, snapshot calculations, and airdrop scripts for auditing. Validators can stop running nodes starting from September 10 at 22:00 Beijing time. The team plans to compensate for the difference in issuance rewards between node shutdown and the final block of the network, establishing a one-time compensation pool of $1.372 million, to be paid in four quarters to validators and their delegators who timely shut down, sign agreements, retain stakes, and serve as governors of the new project. The new business will open up prompts and materials for users to create secondary content, with AI entities expanding video stories, and will recruit operators responsible for video generation, distribution, and content review. Harmony plans to subsidize GPU hardware in the first year and promote demand for video generation, with operators required to stake tokens to earn rewards based on service online time. The team plans to help operators generate up to $1 million in total revenue in the first year, provided they meet staking and online rate requirements; promoters can initially earn a 30% ongoing commission from each $10 monthly subscription they recommend. Both proposals are non-binding and the plans may still be adjusted.

Serenity: The storage prices and supply-demand structure remain tight, and a short-term increase does not indicate that the bottleneck has been broken

Serenity posted a reminder that the fundamentals of storage shortages have not changed and may even become more acute. The market will shift from one bottleneck sector to another, but the companies themselves remain unchanged; what changes are the valuations and narratives. Serenity added several pieces of evidence suggesting that the storage supply-demand gap may be worse than the market expects: Nikkei reported that Japanese distributors claim the storage demand gap has reached 40% to 60%, and prices may rise by about 50% by the end of the year; SpaceX has not accounted for the approximately $1.3 trillion capital expenditure from ultra-large cloud providers, and total spending may exceed expectations; SanDisk's expected gross margin of 80% is expected to be maintained until 2030; and order visibility for companies like Samsung has extended to 2031.Serenity emphasized that storage stocks are highly volatile, with some of its positions showing unrealized gains of over 270%, making them easier to hold. However, the company's operational fundamentals and short-term stock prices often do not align. The same logic applies to other bottleneck areas such as optical modules, CW lasers, and substrates; after a rebound in stock prices, there is no need to assume that shortages have ended. Storage prices and supply-demand structures remain tight, and market sentiment and valuation narratives are rapidly rotating.
