Threshold Network: tBTC minting and redemption suspended, asset reserves are sufficient and no financial losses have occurred

According to Threshold Network, the minting and redemption of tBTC has been temporarily suspended, and there are still sufficient assets to support it, with no financial losses reported. The cross-chain bridge wallet holds approximately 4,320 BTC, while the circulating tBTC is about 4,185. No unauthorized minting or Bitcoin transfer records have been found.Regarding the recently disclosed Linux kernel vulnerability CVE-2026-98432, this vulnerability may allow attackers to execute code remotely on unpatched servers. All tBTC node operators have completed server patching or temporarily shut down their nodes while waiting for the fixed version to be released. The team has not found evidence that this vulnerability has been used to attack tBTC nodes.Additionally, one node operator reported another security incident unrelated to the aforementioned kernel vulnerability, resulting in approximately 0.5 ETH being transferred from its Ethereum account used for paying transaction fees for its tBTC node. At the time, the node was offline, and the operator did not find evidence that the signing key materials were accessed. Threshold Network stated that Bitcoin transactions in the tBTC wallet require signatures from a majority of independent operators, and a single operator cannot transfer funds alone. The cross-chain bridge will reopen once security maintenance is completed and nodes are back online on the patched system. The team will provide the next update within 24 hours and will update earlier if the situation changes.

first_img The Bitcoin cross-chain protocol Threshold has suspended tBTC minting and redemption

On October 31, the Bitcoin cross-chain protocol Threshold Network announced that it has temporarily suspended new BTC deposits and tBTC minting through the Threshold application, as well as new Bitcoin redemption requests. This arrangement is a precautionary measure before the completion of security maintenance.Threshold stated that pending redemptions may still be processed on the Bitcoin network, but final settlements on Ethereum have been paused, and some transactions may experience delays. During the suspension, users should not send BTC to previously generated deposit addresses, nor should they initiate new deposits, minting, or redemptions through other interfaces. Users who have deposited BTC should retain their deposit receipts and transaction hashes, avoid resending transactions to clear pending statuses, and can check the status in the in-app Explorer. This suspension does not affect the holding, transfer, or use of tBTC. Threshold stated that it will release confirmed updates through official channels and provide an estimated time for resuming normal operations when possible. Threshold Network is the issuer of tBTC, positioned as a trust-minimized Bitcoin cross-chain solution, with its official introduction stating that the cross-chain scale is approximately $5.2 billion, and the collateralized lending scale is approximately $2.4 billion.

first_img Cysic cross-chain bridge suffered unauthorized minting of 10 million CYS, the bridge has been suspended

The decentralized computing network Cysic released an event report on platform X stating that its cross-chain bridge was attacked on Saturday. The attacker exploited a processing vulnerability to unauthorizedly mint 10 million CYS on the BNB Smart Chain, and the cross-chain bridge has now been suspended. Preliminary investigation results indicate that the attacker accessed the database supporting the cross-chain bridge without authorization. The report shows that the minting occurred at 12:31:38 UTC, and Cysic added the receiving address to the token contract blacklist at 13:47:52. At that time, the address still held approximately 2.8 million CYS, and transfers have been restricted. Cysic stated that this incident was limited to the message processing and minting aspects of the cross-chain bridge and did not affect the mainnet or other operational systems, nor did it result in the theft or unauthorized transfer of CYS or other assets already in user wallets.Cysic emphasized that the quantity of minted tokens alone cannot determine the final dollar loss, and related token transfers, exchanges, and actual losses are still under verification. The company has hired a security agency and plans to release a follow-up report after the current investigation phase concludes. CYS is used to coordinate incentives for users, computing power providers, governance participants, and contributors within the Cysic network.
