first_img Albuquerque has banned Bitcoin ATMs, requiring operators to remove them within 45 days

The city council of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed an ordinance on Wednesday prohibiting the operation of cryptocurrency ATMs (cryptocurrency vending machines) within the city limits, while also banning cashier-assisted virtual currency transactions. The city government will notify known operators and retailers hosting the machines, requiring them to remove the relevant equipment within 45 days. The ordinance was jointly initiated by District 1 Councilor Stephanie Telles and District 7 Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn. Telles stated that 90% of cryptocurrency ATM transactions in Albuquerque are related to fraud, claiming that these machines are primarily exploited by scammers, organized crime, and human traffickers due to the instant, anonymous, and irreversible nature of transactions. Fiebelkorn remarked that we cannot wait for federal regulators to resolve the crisis. The city council emphasized that residents can still freely hold, mine, and transfer cryptocurrencies through online exchanges and personal wallets. In terms of background, Indiana banned such machines statewide in March, Tennessee in July, and Minnesota in August; Delaware has advanced related legislation, New Jersey is considering it, and Texas is also brewing a ban. One of North America's largest operators, Bitcoin Depot, filed for bankruptcy protection in May and removed about 9,700 machines. According to data from the FBI, nearly 11,000 complaints of vending machine fraud were received in 2024, involving amounts exceeding $246 million.

Forward Industries: Released a white paper on the regulatory framework for crypto vaults, responding to SEC Commissioner Peirce's statement

According to Forward Industries (NASDAQ: $FWDI) in a public letter, the company's General Counsel Georgia Quinn officially responded to SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce's statement on July 22, 2026, titled "Headstands and Summervaults," and proposed a three-tier vault regulatory framework centered on "management freedom" as a core variable:• Type I - Use: Developers provide out-of-the-box software, and users configure parameters themselves without registration;• Type II - Follow: Referencing the SEC's 2013 no-action letter regarding AngelList, Angels set strategies for others to follow, meeting conditions such as co-investment and information disclosure, without needing to register as investment advisors;• Type III - Advised: Involves active management, requiring registration or applicable exemptions, suggesting that the SEC and CFTC jointly regulate to avoid dual compliance conflicts. The article also presents five baseline requirements applicable to all vaults, including conflict of interest disclosure, code public audit, exclusion of disqualified persons, applicability of anti-fraud rules, and state law preemption. The article specifically notes that Peirce's statement did not mention the CFTC, and the inter-agency regulatory issues regarding mixed-asset vaults urgently need to be addressed by the SEC and CFTC.

first_img OKX launched perpetual contracts for OpenAI and Anthropic's Pre-IPO in Europe

Cryptocurrency exchange OKX announced the launch of Pre-IPO perpetual contracts related to OpenAI and Anthropic in Europe. Eligible traders can go long or short on the valuations of the two AI companies with up to 10 times leverage, but will not receive actual shares of the two companies. This product bets on the valuation changes of the two companies before their IPOs, providing a new speculative avenue for retail investors who find it difficult to directly buy shares of private companies.OKX is not the first platform to launch such products. Hyperliquid has offered markets related to OpenAI and Anthropic through HIP-3, and Binance also provides Pre-IPO perpetual contracts for the two companies. OKX stated that such products are not substitutes for the shares themselves but can meet the ongoing market demand for exposure to large tech companies that have not been publicly listed for a long time.Meanwhile, OKX has also launched 100 tokenized stocks and ETFs, including Nvidia, Alphabet, Palantir, as well as SPY and QQQ, allowing European traders to trade traditional markets around the clock. These tokens track the prices of the underlying securities but do not grant holders actual shares or voting rights, and some tokens can be withdrawn to self-custody wallets. OKX Europe CEO Erald Ghoos stated that the demand for its derivatives business continues to grow, with trading volume for X-Perps in the European market quadrupling since the transition period of MiCA ended in July.
