rollup

Rollup is an Ethereum scaling solution designed to improve the transaction processing capacity of the blockchain and reduce transaction fees. By compressing a large amount of transaction data and processing it in batches off-chain, then submitting the results to the Ethereum main chain, Rollup achieves efficient transaction validation. Rollup is divided into two types: Optimistic Rollup and ZK Rollup, with the former assuming transaction validity and the latter ensuring security through zero-knowledge proofs. The Rollup technology enhances the performance of the Ethereum network while maintaining decentralization and security.

first_img DogeOS launched a public testnet, introducing EVM smart contracts for Dogecoin

DogeOS, the application layer of Dogecoin, launched its public testnet on Wednesday, introducing EVM-compatible smart contracts to the Dogecoin network as a zero-knowledge rollup, with DOGE as the native token for transaction fees. The project aims to support applications such as trading, lending, stablecoins, prediction markets, and gaming, while settling state back to the Dogecoin network.DogeOS currently uses a trusted execution environment, validators, and a permissioned sequencer to ensure network security. Future proposed upgrades to Dogecoin Core will allow Dogecoin miners to directly verify their execution proofs. DogeOS CEO Jordan Jefferson stated that Dogecoin does not currently verify ZK proofs on its own, and bridging state transitions requires valid proofs as well as signatures from a majority of validators and TEE signers. He mentioned that the team is currently focused on the public testnet, allowing developers time to build and test applications, with the mainnet timeline to be announced upon reaching the next development milestone.DogeOS comes from the MyDoge wallet team, which announced a $6.9 million funding round led by Polychain Capital in May 2025. Two months later, the DogeOS team submitted a proposal for a Dogecoin Core upgrade to add native ZK proof verification for Dogecoin, but this upgrade has not yet been implemented. Timothy Stebbing, a director of the Dogecoin Foundation, expressed hope that DogeOS will serve as a springboard for a new wave of practical engineering.

The Rollup founder Andy: The U.S. SEC may introduce a tokenized securities innovation exemption

The Rollup founder Andy posted that market rumors suggest the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is preparing to launch the largest tokenization innovation exemption policy to date, which may allow tokenized securities to be traded solely through registered transfer agents, without the need for broker-dealer licenses, and without adhering to traditional trading platform or ATS-related rules. It is also reported that this could cover U.S. retail investors and overseas investors.Andy stated that if the above news is true, its potential impact would be significant. Tokenized funds could be issued and traded directly in the form of on-chain tokens, with transfer agents maintaining legal ownership records on-chain, while the underlying assets held by the fund, such as stocks and bonds, could also be further tokenized, thus forming an on-chain trading system of "fund tokens + underlying asset tokens."Andy later mentioned that a large fund has already received the SEC's "green light," but this has not yet been officially confirmed. He speculated that ARK, Fidelity, or BlackRock could be potential participants. If the policy is ultimately implemented, U.S. asset management firms may accelerate the issuance of native equity tokens to compete for around-the-clock liquidity and on-chain distribution channels, rather than waiting for third parties to mirror tokenize traditional securities. He further linked this potential policy change to the recent push by the Trump administration for regulatory openness in the crypto market, as well as the CFTC's efforts to bring perpetual contracts to the U.S. market, believing that the U.S. regulatory environment may be gradually opening the policy floodgates for on-chain finance.

Vitalik: The current roadmap of Ethereum adds directions such as enhanced privacy, post-quantum scalability, and native Rollups

Vitalik Buterin stated that he has compared the 2023 Ethereum roadmap with the current Strawmap, and while there is still a high degree of overlap in the overall direction, some priorities and technical paths have been clearly adjusted. This includes elevating the priority of quantum security, downplaying VDF and certain EVM improvements, and replacing old designs with unified binary trees, PBT, new state types, and other solutions. He pointed out that the most significant change in the current Strawmap is the emergence of several new topics not included in the 2023 roadmap, reflecting a shift in the focus of Ethereum's development. These new focal points include: stronger native privacy support, aggressive scaling in a post-quantum context, streamlined specifications for formal verification, Blob and Gas futures, native Rollup, and a more open design space around the future form of EVM.Vitalik also emphasized that Ethereum's scaling approach is shifting from "broadly scaling all activities" to "designing more easily scalable dedicated mechanisms for specific high-load scenarios," and views STARK proofs and AI-accelerated formal verification as important foundations for the protocol's future. Overall, this update indicates that the Ethereum roadmap is evolving towards quantum security, privacy-first, censorship resistance, high performance, and more simplified protocol design.

Vitalik questions the L2 scaling path, Arbitrum, Optimism, and Base collectively respond in the direction of de-homogenization

According to Cointelegraph, after Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin commented that "the original vision of Layer 2 as the primary scaling engine is no longer applicable," several L2 builders responded, generally agreeing that Rollup needs to move beyond the positioning of "a cheaper Ethereum," but there are disagreements on whether scaling should still be its core role.Optimism co-founder Karl Floersch welcomed the challenge of building a modular L2 stack that supports "full-spectrum decentralization," while acknowledging that there are still major obstacles such as long withdrawal periods, second-stage proofs not being production-ready, and insufficient cross-chain application tools. He supports the native Rollup precompiled solutions emphasized by Buterin.Steven Goldfeder, co-founder of Arbitrum developer Offchain Labs, took a firmer stance, arguing that although the Rollup model has evolved, scaling remains the core value of L2. He pointed out that Arbitrum was not built as "a service of Ethereum," but because Ethereum provides a highly secure and low-cost settlement layer, making large-scale Rollups possible. He warned that if Ethereum is seen as hostile to Rollups, institutions might choose to launch independent Layer 1 chains instead of deploying on Ethereum.Base head Jesse Pollak stated that scaling Ethereum L1 is "a victory for the entire ecosystem," agreeing that L2 cannot just be "a cheaper Ethereum." He mentioned that Base is differentiating itself through applications, account abstraction, and privacy features, and is working towards decentralization in the second stage.StarkWare CEO Eli Ben-Sasson hinted that some ZK-native L2s (like Starknet) believe they already fit the specialized role described by Buterin. The entire Ethereum ecosystem is facing a roadmap adjustment: the base layer aims to enhance its capabilities, while L2 is repositioning itself as a dedicated environment serving different technical needs.
