first_img DRW and Marex completed the first on-chain bond index swap on the Canton network

According to The Defiant, trading firm DRW executed a total return swap with Marex on the Canton network through Derivnex, referencing the on-chain corporate bond benchmark from S&P Dow Jones Indices. S&P Dow Jones Indices announced this transaction with Kaiko on October 13.The swap was provided by Marex, with DRW as the counterparty, referencing the iBoxx USD Liquid Investment Grade Index, which tracks investment-grade corporate bonds that are dollar-denominated and have good liquidity. The swap provides both parties with exposure to the index without holding the underlying bonds. The transaction will synchronize events such as valuations during the contract's duration between both parties, and plans to migrate margin, collateral, and contract payments to the same infrastructure will be advanced in subsequent phases.Kaiko's tokens combine benchmark data with access permissions and usage rules, retaining the authorized control of S&P Dow Jones Indices, and distributing signed official index values for Derivnex to use for valuation. Derivnex expresses the transaction terms in the form of Canton smart contracts and introduces a universal domain model standard for derivatives trading. DRW founder and CEO Don Wilson stated that both parties can "work off the same record, thereby simplifying the process," and noted that once cash and collateral flows are integrated, more transactions are expected to achieve greater efficiency.

first_img Canton CEO: The cryptocurrency industry needs to solidify adoption before 2028 to withstand shifts in U.S. policy

Digital Asset co-founder and CEO Yuval Rooz stated at the Token2049 conference in Singapore that the crypto industry should leverage the current regulatory environment to accelerate institutional adoption, believing that the widespread use of blockchain will make it harder for future governments to reverse industry progress. He compared this opportunity to Uber and Airbnb, stating that both companies had established themselves before policymakers effectively restricted them, saying, "By the time people react and decide to legislate against these companies, it will be too late."Rooz indicated that the industry should ensure blockchain is widely used so that no matter what happens in 2028, "there is no turning back." The next U.S. presidential election is scheduled for November 7, 2028, which may bring changes in government and regulatory priorities. This statement comes in the context of the CLARITY Act failing to advance in the Senate procedural vote in September, while the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) have been advancing crypto regulation based on existing authority. In the same Token2049 panel discussion, Binance co-CEO Richard Teng expressed hope that the CLARITY Act could still become law, believing that legislation could prevent regulatory backtracking and encourage institutional entry, calling the possibility of reversing current progress the industry's "greatest fear." Franklin Templeton CEO Jenny Johnson stated that legislation would provide greater certainty, but the industry should not rely on the passage of the CLARITY Act, as the SEC and CFTC are already working to provide regulatory clarity to sustain innovation and institutional adoption.

first_img World Liberty Financial issues the stablecoin USD1 natively on the Canton Network

World Liberty Financial announced that its USD stablecoin USD1 has been natively issued on the Canton Network, allowing institutions to use the stablecoin for settling transactions involving tokenized real-world assets (RWA). According to the announcement, USD1 can serve as the cash leg for transactions such as derivatives collateral, institutional lending, and asset issuance and redemption. The native issuance enables it to settle in sync with tokenized assets within the same transaction, while maintaining Canton’s privacy and permission control mechanisms.According to DeFiLlama data, USD1 has a market capitalization of approximately $4.05 billion, making it the sixth-largest stablecoin, issued and managed by BitGo Bank & Trust for its reserves and minting redemption processes. USD1 was launched in March 2025, with reserves including short-term U.S. Treasury bills, government money market funds, and dollar deposits. World Liberty Financial is a crypto project supported by the Trump family, founded in 2024.Canton is a public blockchain aimed at institutional finance, issuing or processing over $90 trillion in tokenized assets monthly, with over $350 billion in on-chain U.S. Treasuries flowing through its network daily. Zak Folkman, co-founder and COO of World Liberty Financial, stated that institutions have put trillions of dollars in U.S. Treasuries and government debt on-chain, but the dollar settlement still relies on outdated infrastructure. The combination of Canton and the native USD1 allows real-world assets to complete dollar settlements with greater speed and privacy.
