On October 8, blockchain software company Consensys and post-trade infrastructure company ClearToken announced a collaboration aimed at enabling banks to transfer tokenized assets and cash through 24/7 infrastructure. The two parties plan to connect Consensys's blockchain system with ClearToken's regulated post-trade entities for the settlement of eligible securities using fiat currency, tokenized bank deposits, or stablecoins. The announcement did not put a new public blockchain or settlement venue into production but outlined how the two parties plan to connect tokenization, wallets, distribution, cash flow, and the legal finality of securities settlement. Consensys will provide cryptographic finality, which is the technical certainty that on-chain transactions are immutable; ClearToken is responsible for settlement finality, which is the legal certainty that the transfer of funds or securities is final and irrevocable. ClearToken's securities custody has passed Gate 2 of the Bank of England's Digital Securities Sandbox, and its independent clearing entity still requires authorization from the Bank of England.ClearToken CSD Limited plans to convert eligible securities held by different banks into interchangeable tokenized instruments, using the same ISIN as the corresponding traditional securities. At launch, the custody plan will support FTSE 350 stocks, GBP government bonds, GBP corporate bonds, and non-GBP corporate bonds. The sandbox custody limits are set at £600 million for government bonds, £900 million for GBP corporate bonds, and £1.8 billion for non-GBP corporate bonds. The announcement did not name participating banks, networks, wallet products, or the date of the first transaction.

IBM announced that customers of its digital asset management platform IBM Digital Asset Haven can now connect to permissioned blockchain networks, including the blockchain-based shared ledger from Swift. A new beta version of the ISO 20022 message adapter allows financial institutions to initiate tokenized deposit transactions through this ledger using standard payment messages. IBM stated that financial institutions participating in Swift-related programs have tested tokenized deposits on this ledger using Digital Asset Haven. The ledger supports tokenized deposits issued by banks, enabling participating IBM clients to transfer digital assets around the clock, with final settlement still completed through existing systems.Swift first announced this ledger at Sibos 2025, based on a prototype developed in collaboration with Consensys, with over 40 financial institutions involved in its design, 17 of which are participating in the tokenized deposit pilot. Swift currently connects over 12,500 financial institutions across more than 200 markets worldwide. The aforementioned message adapter allows banks to continue using existing payment message formats and operational processes without adopting blockchain-specific workflows.IBM is also expanding Digital Asset Haven to a localized deployment beta version, which can be installed on IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE in the client's own data center for managing digital assets such as stablecoins and tokenized deposits, without relying on public cloud infrastructure. IBM stated that the platform and key management layer are fully retained within the client's own environment, with keys protected by IBM Crypto Express hardware security modules.

Consensys founder: Remains optimistic about the long-term development of the crypto space, ETH has stronger functional demand compared to BTC

According to Crowdfund Insider, Joseph Lubin, founder and CEO of Consensys and co-founder of Ethereum, recently shared his views on the current state and future trajectory of the cryptocurrency market during an interview in Hong Kong. Lubin expressed a cautiously optimistic outlook. He emphasized that the digital asset economy is continuously evolving, driven by functional utility rather than pure speculative forces. When discussing Bitcoin, Lubin believes it should not be viewed as a traditional safe-haven asset at this stage. He described the broader crypto landscape as still resembling a "startup ecosystem," suggesting that positioning Bitcoin as a secure store of value amidst current developmental challenges may be premature. In contrast, he highlighted that Ethereum's native cryptocurrency, ETH, has a stronger functional demand.Lubin believes that the practicality of ETH in driving decentralized applications, smart contracts, and broader ecosystem activities gives it an advantage in real-world adoption compared to Bitcoin's main narrative. He emphasized Ethereum's enduring importance in the evolving financial infrastructure. He pointed out that institutional participation is deepening, with major banks, trading platforms, and financial networks increasingly building on Ethereum-based technologies and layer two scaling solutions. He stated that this momentum at the institutional level indicates that even amid market fluctuations, Ethereum is transitioning towards becoming the next-generation financial foundation.Overall, Lubin's remarks reflect confidence in Ethereum's long-term potential under short-term market pressures. He portrayed the ecosystem as resilient and innovative, with tools like Ethereum and MetaMask poised to drive meaningful progress in the digital economy.
