first_img Ethereum Hoodi testnet Glamsterdam hard fork postponed

On October 22, the smart contract security company ChainSecurity announced that the Glamsterdam hard fork on the Ethereum Hoodi testnet has been postponed. Researchers stated that security impacts have been found in existing contracts and identified 13 real cases, and they are currently conducting responsible disclosure with the affected projects. The announcement requests teams to review the contracts, and the Ethereum Foundation is assessing the scope of the impact; the announcement did not name the projects, provide contract addresses, or give an alternative fork date. The related issues involve contracts that continue execution after capturing failed external calls. Under the reviewed gas changes, the failure handler may complete execution, whereas it would previously roll back due to gas exhaustion. The caller can deliberately provide insufficient gas to complete the target operation, but enough to allow the outer contract to record a permanent failure, causing operations that could have been retried to lose their recovery path. The technical disclosure reviews EIP-8037 and EIP-8038 from the version specification dated October 13, where the gas examples described are for proposed execution behavior. The state-gas reservoir will be fully passed with the call, and forwarding restrictions apply to execution gas, with gasleft() only reporting the execution balance. According to the reviewed rules, clearing storage slots that start at zero at the beginning of a transaction can replenish up to 97,920 execution gas; intermediary contracts may also credit back the accounted state-creation fees upon REVERT and return them to the caller.

first_img Intel's Ohio chip plant installs its first main truss, completion target postponed to 2030

On October 21, Intel announced that construction workers have installed the first major structural truss at the new chip factory in New Albany, Ohio, marking the start of the next phase of construction. Naga Chandrasekaran, head of Intel's foundry, stated on the company's website that this is another step towards expanding advanced semiconductor manufacturing capacity in the United States. The factory was originally scheduled to begin chip production in 2025, but Intel has now postponed the completion target to 2030. The second Ohio wafer fab at the same site is planned to be completed by 2031, located northeast of Columbus. The delay is related to a recalibration of the foundry business under CEO Lip-Bu Tan. After taking over in 2025, Tan adopted a more cautious strategy, preferring to advance large-scale factory construction only after customer demand is clear. The project was initially driven by former CEO Pat Gelsinger, aimed at providing foundry services for external customers. As of the end of 2025, Intel has been mass-producing the most advanced 18A chips at its Arizona wafer fab, primarily for its own processors, and has not yet secured large external customers. Chandrasekaran also announced on the same day that operations for the next wafer fab in Arizona are expected to begin by the end of 2028, with construction and equipment installation currently underway. In September 2025, reports indicated that SK Hynix might be in talks with Intel to lease part of the foundry space at the Ohio plant for producing memory chips, but neither party has confirmed any plans.

first_img Standard Chartered Bank has postponed its prediction for the $20 trillion stablecoin market to 2030

According to a report by The Block, Standard Chartered Bank has postponed its prediction for the stablecoin market to reach a scale of $2 trillion from 2028 to 2030. Geoffrey Kendrick, the bank's global head of digital asset research, stated that the $2 trillion scale estimate remains unchanged, but he believes the market will need an additional two years to reach it. Over the past 12 months, the supply of stablecoins has remained in the range of $300 billion to $320 billion, currently around $309 billion. Kendrick believes this slowdown is cyclical rather than structural, as it occurs during a period of weak activity in the cryptocurrency market.Kendrick pointed out that despite the stagnation in supply growth, the use and trading activity of stablecoins continue to rise. The on-chain original transfer amount set a monthly record of $19 trillion in May, with an average monthly scale of nearly $10 trillion this year, higher than the $4 trillion expected in 2025.The monthly average circulation velocity, which measures the number of times each dollar of stablecoin is transferred, has doubled this year to about 30 times, compared to 15 times in 2025, with USDT maintaining around 7 times, while USDC has increased from 45 times to about 80 times. Kendrick stated that the differences stem from different uses, with USDT primarily used for dollar savings in emerging markets, while USDC is more used for payments, financial transactions, and early payments between AI agents.Kendrick expects that competition in stablecoin payments and trading in developed markets will be the most intense, with potential challengers including Open USD, stablecoin infrastructure provider M^0, and the A+ network, which plans to allow banks to issue shared stablecoins and retain reserve earnings.

first_img SK Hynix's partial HBM4 backend equipment orders may be postponed until next year

According to DealSite, storage chip manufacturer SK Hynix is expanding the mass production of the sixth-generation high bandwidth memory HBM4. However, some industry insiders believe that the expansion speed is slower than expected, and some equipment orders planned for this year may be postponed until next year.Industry insiders stated that some equipment originally scheduled for delivery in the second half of this year has shown signs of delay, and subsequent order plans have not yet been clarified. An anonymous source indicated that some equipment originally planned for this year may be pushed to next year, and there is no data confirming whether the delivered equipment is operating at full capacity. The investment plans related to HBM4 for next year have not been specifically communicated to some partners, and this year's orders have largely been completed, but there are no clear signals of increased or decreased investment. Reports suggest that the direct correlation between the equipment investment schedule and product quality issues has not yet been confirmed.Liu Henggen, a researcher at Daxin Securities, believes that concerns about major customers' HBM4 quality issues leading to performance below expectations are excessive. There may have been some issues in the backend process, but they cannot be regarded as insurmountable risks, and it is not yet time to discuss bad compensation. There are also industry claims that, against the backdrop of rising prices for general memory, some HBM investments may shift towards general memory. SK Hynix plans to prioritize the introduction of DRAM production equipment into the first cleanroom of the Yongin cluster Y1 wafer fab, and the industry expects that the initial production line will adopt the sixth-generation 10-nanometer 1c process, with the new capacity being prioritized for general DRAM. Some opinions also suggest that changes in the schedule of certain backend equipment are insufficient to determine that HBM4 mass production is hindered, as SK Hynix has already supplied HBM4 16-layer samples to major customers.

first_img Apyx postponed the APYX token TGE, and the Season 2 allocation was raised to 9%

The digital credit protocol Apyx announced on September 23 that the TGE of the governance token APYX has been postponed to after the originally scheduled date of October 13, 2026, when rewards were planned to be distributed to Season 1 and Season 2 participants. The reasons for the delay are twofold: the core reserve asset STRC has experienced the deepest and longest drawdown in its brief history, the protocol has not been interrupted, and the Chainlink on-chain NAV, proof cadence, minting, and redemption are still operating under existing terms, but the volatility of digital credit exceeds the range shown by its short history, requiring more time to address; multiple institutions have proactively reached out, hoping to use their infrastructure to bring their assets on-chain.The additional time will be used to strengthen the core protocol and to build a broader RWA platform V1 before the TGE. Digital credit remains the reserve anchor and source of yield for apyUSD, with custody, proof, on-chain NAV, redemption, and compliance frameworks being opened to other issuers and asset types. Apyx stated that the zero-fee, instant redemption, government bond-backed aptUSD has been launched, making it the first asset in the ecosystem not derived from digital credit. The Pips plan will continue, and Season 2 will no longer end on the originally scheduled date of October 11; the accumulation under the existing multiplier will remain uninterrupted, and positions, commitments, Curve and Pendle positions, and lending positions will continue to score without any action required.Due to the extended accumulation period, the airdrop allocation for Season 2 has increased from 6% of the total supply to 9%. The new end date will be confirmed along with the new TGE date, and it will not end without prior notice. The allocations for Season 1 and Season 2 will still be fully unlocked at the TGE.
