first_img Micron Technology's Taoyuan Union in Taiwan has received authorization for a strike, and the bonus dispute has escalated

According to a report by Reuters, reprinted by Nikkei Asia, the union representing employees at Micron Technology's Taoyuan plant in Taiwan announced on Wednesday that it has obtained authorization for a strike, with the focus of the dispute being the company's bonus plan. The union stated that 1,994 members voted in favor of the strike, accounting for 99% of the voters, while details such as the timing of the strike are still under discussion. Micron has approximately 15,000 employees in Taiwan, with independent unions in Taoyuan and Taichung, and the two unions together represent over 80% of Micron's employees in Taiwan. Micron Taiwan is the company's largest manufacturing base.Taiwan is a key production site for Micron's DRAM and high-bandwidth memory, with related chips being important components for AI servers. Mediation with the Taoyuan union did not reach an agreement in September, and the Taichung union is still in negotiations. In September, Micron announced that it would distribute bonuses for the fiscal year 2026 to over 60,000 employees worldwide, stating that the company had experienced an "extraordinary year," with Taiwanese employees receiving a cash bonus of 1 million New Taiwan Dollars, approximately 31,400 US dollars. The Taoyuan union stated that the plan did not address the request for a permanent profit-sharing mechanism and criticized Micron for announcing the bonuses without first reaching an agreement with the union during the mediation period.

first_img Google launched Playground, where you can generate playable games by entering text descriptions

On October 7, Google launched the web platform Playground, where users can describe game ideas in natural language and obtain playable, shareable game versions without writing code. Users can also continue to adjust physical effects, rules, characters, or scenes through dialogue and share their creations via links. This tool is currently open to users over 18 in the United States, with creation permissions tiered according to the user's Google AI subscription level.Games in Playground can run in browsers on mobile phones and laptops. Creators can set their works to private or publish them to the community gallery, and all games must pass a security review, with some categories supporting leaderboards and multiplayer modes. Google refers to it as "an early experiment," and the announcement did not disclose pricing or specify which AI models power the tool. The upgrade path points to Unity Spark, and Google stated that Playground will soon integrate this tool to meet the needs of creators requiring professional-level mechanics and high-fidelity 3D. In a joint statement, Google and Unity announced that Spark will launch later this year, with closed testing starting soon. Previously, DeepMind released the Genie model in 2024, and in January, Google opened Project Genie based on Genie 3 to users of the AI Ultra subscription in the United States.

first_img Ondo's inheritance crisis escalates, founder's mother accused by daughter of dementia and alcoholism

Nathan Allman, the founder of Ondo Finance, suddenly passed away in May this year at the age of 32 without leaving a will. His parents, Kathleen Allman and Lawrence Allman, inherited the estate, including a controlling stake in Ondo and a large number of ONDO tokens. Subsequently, Kathleen Allman sued acting CEO Ian De Bode, accusing him of attempting to seize control of the company and arranging a compensation package of approximately $11 million for himself. Now, this inheritance crisis has escalated further. Nathan's half-sister, Lani Clinton, a medical professor at Duke University, along with Ondo investor David Chen, has applied to the Hawaii court for limited oversight of Kathleen Allman's share of the estate, accusing her of having a long-term alcohol use disorder and progressive cognitive impairment, as well as engaging in extravagant behavior. Documents show that Kathleen had purchased a yacht worth about $4 million, requested the company to cover six-figure charter costs, and stayed at hotels costing about $4,000 per night. Her son also purchased a $18.5 million beachfront residence for his parents in June 2025.Kathleen Allman, through her lawyer, denied the above allegations, stating they are unfounded, and claimed that the application was made by associates of De Bode, representing a last-ditch effort after his attempt to seize power in the Delaware Chancery Court failed. Ondo Finance declined to comment.
