According to data from the International Federation of Robotics, Chinese companies installed 295,000 new industrial robots in China in 2024, accounting for 54% of the global total. Two years ago, China had over 2 million industrial robots in operation, approximately 4.5 times that of the second-place Japan. According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China, the revenue of China's robotics industry exceeded 300 billion yuan (4.4 billion USD) last year, with an average annual growth rate of over 20% over five years. Industrial robot exports are expected to grow by 49% in 2025, making China a net exporter of industrial robots for the first time.Chinese manufacturers now hold the majority share of the domestic industrial robot market, which was previously dominated by Fanuc, ABB, Yaskawa, and KUKA before 2024. BYD's Xi'an factory operates thousands of automated robotic arms for electric vehicle assembly lines, with key components being nearly fully autonomous. The Yangshan Port in Shanghai has built the world's largest automated terminal, almost entirely operated by automated guided vehicles and remotely controlled gantry cranes, with minimal human intervention. Regulatory authorities in Guangdong Province recently approved 48 "robot +" deployment scenarios covering manufacturing, logistics, and service sectors. The quadruped and humanoid robot company Yushu Technology went public last month, with its first-day trading valuation exceeding 1,200 times its past earnings.

first_img He Xiaopeng: Xpeng humanoid robot IRON will begin mass production at the end of the year

He Xiaopeng, Chairman of XPeng Inc., stated at the 2026 semi-annual financial report meeting that the humanoid robot IRON plans to enter large-scale production by the end of this year and will implement commercial scenarios in XPeng stores and parks. In 2027, IRON will officially launch, targeting external customers in the retail and service industries, with large-scale deliveries in China and overseas, and monthly production capacity can quickly increase to several thousand units. He has also served as the CEO of the robotics business since June of this year, integrating resources such as the automotive supply chain, automotive-grade manufacturing, global layout, and Turing AI chips to promote mass production and commercialization.On the same day, XPeng announced that its humanoid robot business has secured over $900 million in its first round of financing, with a post-investment valuation exceeding $6.3 billion. IDG led the investment, with Gao Rong Venture Capital, Tencent, Alibaba, and others subscribing for $600 million, while XPeng Inc. and senior executives including He Xiaopeng subscribed for $300 million. He Xiaopeng believes that the technical threshold for advanced general-purpose robotics is at least 20 times that of smart cars, and the revenue and gross profit over the entire lifecycle of a single unit will be significantly higher than that of cars, expecting considerable gross profit after mass production to support physical AI research and development.The pre-installed mass-produced Robotaxi equipped with the second-generation VLA has completed over 2,000 internal test orders in Guangzhou, and XPeng has completed the development of the cloud takeover platform, aiming to achieve passenger operations without safety personnel next year. The automotive business generated total revenue of 32.78 billion yuan in the first half of the year, delivering 166,000 vehicles, with a gross margin of 20.6%; it is expected to deliver between 115,000 and 121,000 vehicles in the third quarter, with total revenue between 21.7 billion and 23.4 billion yuan.

The report analyzes from various dimensions including industry overview, development trends, technical services, industrial chain, and product application scenarios, with a focus on comparing the development situations of China, the United States, Germany, South Korea, and Japan.The report presents four core findings: technological innovation has entered a new stage of "cluster emergence," with continuous enhancement in environmental perception, planning decision-making, and motion control capabilities; the industrial chain has achieved a dual leap in quality and efficiency, now possessing the manufacturing capability of the entire industrial chain from key chips and components to complete machines; industry applications have entered a stage of comprehensive rollout, transitioning from small-batch production to normalized deployment and large-scale application; and the ecological construction has formed a new paradigm of "four-in-one" standard, talent, international cooperation, and innovation infrastructure.The report points out that in the first half of 2026, China's humanoid robot shipments have exceeded 40,000 units, further increasing its global share to 97%. Humanoid robots are seen as an important carrier of embodied intelligence and are expected to play a greater role in scenarios such as production manufacturing, warehousing logistics, emergency rescue, home services, and healthcare.

OpenMind teams up with Robostore to launch the first comprehensive humanoid robot education program

Robot software company OpenMind, in collaboration with Robostore, the largest distributor in the U.S., today announced the launch of the world's first comprehensive humanoid robot education program.With the widespread application of the Unitree G1 in campuses and laboratories, institutions need to go beyond the standardized academic paths of literature and simulations. This new course is designed to meet that need: it employs a modular, video-based system covering areas such as movement, perception, coordination, and interaction, based on OpenMind's OM1 operating system, enabling learners to program, test, and deploy humanoid robots in physical environments."The pace of development in humanoid robotics has outstripped the accompanying educational support," said OpenMind CEO and Stanford University professor Jan Liphardt. "We built this course to allow every lab and student to experiment with embodied intelligence using real hardware, rather than just writing code in a simulator."Robostore CEO Teddy Hagerty added, "This collaboration brings together world-class hardware and a complete educational foundation. With OM1 and Unitree G1, higher education institutions will embark on a new paradigm of embodied intelligence learning."Robostore has already supported over 100 top institutions, including Harvard University, MIT, and Stanford University, indicating a growing demand from technical schools and research institutions. The course will be available this month through Robostore and its partnered academic institutions and research laboratories.
