first_img SK Hynix accelerates the expansion of its 1c DRAM market share, becoming the main force by early next year

According to the Chosun Ilbo report on September 7, SK Hynix is accelerating the increase of the production share of 10-nanometer sixth-generation (1c) DRAM. Industry data shows that its 1c DRAM share rose from about 10% in the first quarter of this year to about 13% in the second quarter, and is expected to reach about 24% in the third quarter and about 34% in the fourth quarter; it may rise to about 35% in the first quarter of next year, surpassing 1b (about 33%) for the first time and becoming the main process. The share of 1b (10-nanometer fifth-generation) DRAM peaked at about 43% in the second quarter of this year and has since begun to decline.By the end of the second quarter, Samsung Electronics had a 1c share of about 16% and Micron about 19%, both higher than SK Hynix's approximately 13%. Reports indicate that SK Hynix is accelerating the transition in the second half of the year, and in the fourth quarter, it may exceed Samsung Electronics' approximately 31% with about 34%. SK Hynix stated in its second-quarter earnings call that the supply of DRAM using the 1c process will substantially begin from the second quarter, and in the second half of the year, with the ramp-up of HBM4 and increased shipments of 1c general DRAM, the bit growth rate will be higher than in the first half.Samsung Electronics will use 1c DRAM starting with HBM4, with a running speed of about 11.7Gbps; SK Hynix previously prioritized ensuring mass production stability with verified 1b DRAM and advanced MR-MUF packaging, and will use 1c DRAM for the first time as the core chip for HBM starting with the next generation HBM4E. Counterpoint Research and others estimate that this year, the market share of HBM4 under the combined metrics of Nvidia, Google, and AMD is approximately 50% for SK Hynix in the mid-range, 20% for Samsung Electronics in the later range, and 10% for Micron in the later range.

first_img Cross-chain infrastructure Router Protocol announced its closure and will destroy 303 million ROUTE tokens

Router Protocol, a cross-chain infrastructure project supported by Coinbase Ventures, announced that it will cease all operations by September 30 and plans to permanently destroy 303,333,198 ROUTE tokens held in its treasury, accounting for about 30% of the total supply of nearly 1 billion tokens. The team released a statement on X, stating that over the past year, they attempted commercialization, licensing, and acquisition negotiations, but failed to achieve sustainable operational results.Router identified the flow of funds from the cryptocurrency sector to artificial intelligence and the decline in cross-chain asset transfer fees as core challenges facing its operations. As activities concentrated on fewer networks and standardized infrastructure, the demand for its services has decreased. The team noted that bridging economic profits are thin, fees have been compressed, and costs have never stopped. As part of the closure, Router will negotiate with centralized exchanges to stop supporting ROUTE tokens, and the delisting arrangements and withdrawal processes may vary across exchanges.Router raised $4.1 million from investors including Coinbase Ventures and Polygon in 2021 and launched the proof-of-stake Layer 1 blockchain Router Chain in July 2024, but it was shut down in September 2025 due to infrastructure costs, validator expansion, and security risks. The team also disclosed two security incidents in 2025: in February, approximately 80% of the value was recovered through negotiations after a vulnerability incident, while losses from a chain-level vulnerability in July could not be recovered.

first_img The National Sheriffs' Association will change its stance on the Clarity Act from opposition to neutrality

According to CoinDesk, the National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) sent a letter to Senate leadership on Thursday, announcing a shift in its position on the Clarity Act from opposition to neutrality. Association President Troy Wellman and Executive Director Justin Smith stated in their letter to Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer that, given the complexity of the bill and the significant details still under review, the most appropriate course of action is to take a step back and allow the legislative process to continue in order to establish a clear, effective, and urgently needed regulatory framework.Previously, the NSA had sent a letter to the Senate Banking Committee in May, warning that Section 604 of the bill would grant "blanket exemptions" to mixers, tumblers, and DeFi platforms from anti-money laundering rules, and stated that individuals might exploit evolving software, algorithms, and AI agents to transfer digital assets without tracking or accountability, engaging in activities such as money laundering, financing terrorism, and evading sanctions. A month after that letter was sent, the White House invited law enforcement organizations expressing concerns about the cryptocurrency market structure bill to meet and discuss how to address the bill's controversies regarding the prevention of illegal finance. Blockchain Association CEO Summer Mersinger also criticized the NSA's opposition stance in a July column, calling the bill "the most significant consumer protection measure in years."The NSA's shift to neutrality removes one of the most outspoken critics from the law enforcement community ahead of the September vote on the bill.
